Don't love girls names...

FaithHopeandGlory · 20/04/2020 08:16

So, we have whittled our list for boys down to: Rupert, Felix, Jasper, Jago, Edward, Austen and I've snuck Quentin in there.

We are having so much trouble even liking girl names along a similar vein. We'd like them to be recognisable names but ideally not popular as like most, we'd like them to be the only one in their class. No names feel right to us at the moment and I already feel like I've read a million and one names sites, forums and lists but can't find the one.

I'm hoping you lovely lot can help?!

Seriously if you want them to be the only one in the class with the name then don,t schoose, Amelia, Isabelle, Mathilda, or Violet or sophie. These are pretty names but also quite a few of them at present.

I like Elizabeth as you have so many options to shorten if you want.

RoseHarper · 20/04/2020 19:44

Forgot Phillipa/Pippa too.

RoseHarper · 20/04/2020 19:43

I think Juno, Etta and Penelope have a similar feel to your boys names.

florascotia2 · 20/04/2020 19:38

And a few gaelic ones, all Scottish:
Morven
Ishbel
Eilidh
Elspeth

Mostly not gaelic, mostly simply local versions of international names:

Morven - yes this one is gaelic. It means 'big mountain'
Ishbel - Scots (not gaelic) version of a pan-European name, Isabel
Eilidh - essentially Ellie/Helen with a west-coast accent
Elspeth- Scots (not gaelic) version of international name Elizabeth.

They are all perfectly nice names , please don't get me wrong.

We always wanted to use a less popular name for both our girls but also one that wasn’t too impossible to spell or pronounce. There is nothing more annoying than people getting your name wrong all the time as I know from bitter experience. I have not included their names above but I failed. Both have quite a list of incorrect versions of their names! Also their friends come up with nicknames that don’t originate from you. You might like a nickname but others use something totally different!

Delphi (or Delphine)
Mary
Beatrice

@FaithHopeandGlory

Morwenna - Morr-wenna (rolled r, in practice most people will say More-wenna)
Elowen (Elle-oh-en)
Lowenna
Steren - same as below but with a T
Seren - Serr-en - en as in Pen and the first e has the same sound
Mari - Marry
Tesni - Tess-nee
Eira - Ey-ra (ey as in hey, ra as in rabbit. Eye-ra in some parts of Wales)

And a few gaelic ones, all Scottish:
Morven
Ishbel
Eilidh - ey-lee. I know one who describes it as Hayley without the H
Elspeth

Some gorgeous ones there, thank you. Love Juliette (I've put that on my list and if not first name it's definitely a middle name contender), Evangeline, Georgiana and Josephine (DH has already vetoed Josephine though, I adored the nn Sephie! :( )

@CaffiSaliMali you'll have to help me with the pronunciation of some of those! They sound beautiful though!
