Don't love girls names...

So, we have whittled our list for boys down to: Rupert, Felix, Jasper, Jago, Edward, Austen and I've snuck Quentin in there.

We are having so much trouble even liking girl names along a similar vein. We'd like them to be recognisable names but ideally not popular as like most, we'd like them to be the only one in their class. No names feel right to us at the moment and I already feel like I've read a million and one names sites, forums and lists but can't find the one.

I'm hoping you lovely lot can help?!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
PixieN · 23/04/2020 22:51

@FaithHopeandGlory yes, we’ve had a nightmare picking names as my DH is a teacher too so we have both vetoed names due to certain associations we have.

@PixieN I'm in the same line of work yes :)

Dora is pretty. I think Theodora is lovely as a full name and Dora as a nickname. Did you find names hard with having associations? Not all of mine are good either sadly...

Hoping for something to pop up that I love fingers crossed

Are you a teacher @FaithHopeandGlory ? It’s really hard not to associate names with certain kids. I taught a lovely Dora if that helps? I noticed you like the name Theodora.

FaithHopeandGlory · 23/04/2020 11:13

@limpbizkit they feel a little dated to my ears, very 80s-90s. So difficult

limpbizkit · 22/04/2020 15:22

Kirsty? Kirsten?

FaithHopeandGlory · 22/04/2020 14:51

Thanks all. I like Estelle but DH doesn't (obviously I hear you all say! My patience is about as thin as my nail beds currently ha!) I also like Millicent however the nickname Mille is probably very popular.

I really like Anais as well so will ask DH when he comes home from work!

Totally appreciate all your help. Maybe I should add that I find this very difficult because I know a lot of children's through work and have name associations to a lot of them. So although there are so many beautiful suggestions, I wouldn't use. I hope I have given a good indication of style if anyone else has any further suggestions.

The struggle is real!

If you like Claudia and Theodora, how about Sylvia? Similar vibe I think?

FaithHopeandGlory · 22/04/2020 10:48

@Theoldwoman I like Felicity and Emmeline from your list. I read some previous posts re Emmeline and people didn't like it on basis of its sound - I would pronounce it as Emma-line as in Madeline and Caroline not Emma-leen. I think it's beautiful and will ask DH.

@Twisique Theodora is gorgeous! I think that goes well with our boy names and style too.

Just read your updates.

I don't like illiterate names, so C is out for me.

Claudia is a great name, I used to really love it, but then I heard a different pronunciation and that put me off.

Don't give her something too horrible (thinking Constance) I doubt she will love it and thank you for it.

What about:

April
Danielle
Alana
Melanie
Megan
Emmeline
Jordana
Stephanie
Louisa
Antoinette
Hermoine
Kirstie

Theoldwoman · 22/04/2020 08:52

@limpbizkit I love the name Harriet, although I had a friend called Harriet who was always just a called Harr, which I think takes away from the beautiful name. Thank you for the suggestion though

OP posts:
limpbizkit · 21/04/2020 18:42

Harriet

FaithHopeandGlory · 21/04/2020 18:39

@PixieN Seraphina is lovely. Don't know if DH will be on board with it though but I really like it

OP posts:
FaithHopeandGlory · 21/04/2020 18:38

@PixieN yes we would have a middle name.. I'm just worried it would sound a David Davies type of name!

Clara Cartland
Clara Collins
Clara Cunningham

Hmm they sound quite nice! Claudia is also pretty...

Eternally confused :/
