Don't love girls names...

FaithHopeandGlory · 20/04/2020 08:16

So, we have whittled our list for boys down to: Rupert, Felix, Jasper, Jago, Edward, Austen and I've snuck Quentin in there.

We are having so much trouble even liking girl names along a similar vein. We'd like them to be recognisable names but ideally not popular as like most, we'd like them to be the only one in their class. No names feel right to us at the moment and I already feel like I've read a million and one names sites, forums and lists but can't find the one.

I'm hoping you lovely lot can help?!

@FaithHopeandGlory also Cleo and Caro. Love Caro

Edenember · 07/05/2020 18:56

@FaithHopeandGlory Eseld and Aphra are two girls names I feel are lovely but really underused yet obvious on how to pronounce. Guinevere is gorgeous I think but perhaps not easy to pull off. I also like Orpah, it’s a biblical name, it’s what Oprah Winfrey was meant to be called but her name was misspelt on birth cert. rhymes with orca though .

Grufallosfriends · 07/05/2020 15:24

I really like Constance, Theodora and Estelle! And I think they go well with a hard C surname! How about Antonia or Cecilia?

We have a Quentin btw. Love that too Smile.

Mumwith4kidzz · 30/04/2020 04:12

@FaithHopeandGlory

Rupert - god no
Felix- ok
Jasper-Yes!
Jago-No,no,no.
Edward- Love it!!
Austen-perfer Austin better

FakeFraudSquad · 29/04/2020 18:20

Forgot I met a baby Cecilia recently 😍

FakeFraudSquad · 29/04/2020 18:18

I know a baby Lara born last week! It’s a lovely name. I think some of the Evie/Ava/Millie type names are going out of the window at the moment in favour of more classic/timeless names. Other babies born recently that I know of are Eleanor and Miriam.

Some names I’ve only come across once as a teacher not all to my/your taste;

Aeris (Air-iss)
Sylvia
Liddie
Lettie
Juniper
Fearne
Aiobhinn
Siobhanna
Navine
Nadia
Nadine
Nicolette
Noelia
Beulah
Adri (short for Adriana)
Cara
Saffron
Zena
Xavia
Remy
Catalina
Callie
Cadence
Briella
Tamsin
Eden
Marissa
Alana

Decent names that have fallen out of popularity;

Megan
Antonia
Rachel
Maria

Chloe
Nicole
Meredith
Lauren
Emma
Rebecca
Catherine
Anna
Helen
Hannah
Marie and Mary
Sarah, Sara
Beth
Tess
Jessica
Leanne

I think that's classic, not overly used anymore either.

I love Thomasina at the moment but OH won’t hear of it. Same with Clara.

I also like Sylvie, Anna-Rose,
Ivana and Margot

LottaBean · 26/04/2020 16:15

Elowen
Bronwyn
Prairie
Petra
Lita
Dahlia
Olympia

Lobsterquadrille2 · 24/04/2020 23:03

@PixieN love your list in its entirety. I'd go for Rose rather than Rosie or Rosa. I have nieces Holly and Sophie; almost Rebecca and Olivia but other choices prevailed. All lovely.

Flymetothestars · 24/04/2020 21:39

@ArtichokeAardvark sigh maybe don’t come into a thread with that attitude when your daughters own name exactly fits the OP’s criteria 🤦‍♀️🙈

PixieN · 24/04/2020 21:29

Our shortlist is as follows:

Rose, Rosie or Rosa
Seren
Rebecca
Holly
Sophie
Olivia (probably too popular unfortunately)

FaithHopeandGlory · 24/04/2020 10:50

@ArtichokeAardvark Laura is beautiful. I'm not looking for an out-there, overly frilly or stagey name for our DD. Just one that I don't already associate with a child due to my line of work. Laura is the exact type of underused names I have been looking for and I'm sure you've just read our consideration of Lara.

ArtichokeAardvark · 24/04/2020 10:44

Sigh... another of these threads. You don't have to go for an out-there, overly frilly / stagey name to find one that isn't overused.

I have a 3 month old Laura. Every midwife in the hospital and since has said that she's the first they've come across in YEARS. It was very popular in the 80s but has fallen completely out of fashion, despite most people liking the name. It's classic, won't date, I'm not saddling her with something unspellable or unpronounceable and she's unlikely to hate it (I hope).

Satsuma2 · 24/04/2020 10:36

Hazel
Kezia
Clementine
Plum

FaithHopeandGlory · 24/04/2020 10:23

@whatsyourflava do you think it will become quite mainstream? I do really love it too! DH is on the fence with Theodora but has said if I truly love it, he's happy to go with it too.

Whatsyourflava · 24/04/2020 10:22

Lara is beautiful @FaithHopeandGlory

Have you got a shortlist @PixieN

FaithHopeandGlory · 24/04/2020 10:19

@pixien I really feel your pain. Hope you find something you love. Do you have any front runners at the moment? So glad I'm not the only one feeling like this

OP posts:
FaithHopeandGlory · 24/04/2020 10:16

@LotusClover We both actually agree on Lara (is this our groundbreaking moment?! Ha!)

Yes they're are definitely my taste. Are there any others that you like?

OP posts:
LotusClover · 23/04/2020 23:27

Clara and Claudia are very much my taste as well so how about these names that I like:

Maya
Lara
Tanya
Tara
Zara

They will get rid of the double C problem you were worried about!

Nsky · 23/04/2020 23:02

Annalisa........love it
