Hi all, we are expecting our little girl in August and LOVE the name Sienna but one thing that is putting us off is not having a shortened version as a nickname! Is this stupid? Also, if you know a Sienna, do they have a nickname? Hmm

Luredbyapomegranate · 19/06/2022 13:25

Sienna in the OP is almost 2 now! Do I'd imagine they don't need suggestions anymore.

Lol never noticed. It was a trending post!

My friend’s DD gets picked on and called Siennakot (she’s 14). Teenagers can be so mean!

RuthW · 18/06/2022 23:22

Sienna I know is Si-Si

ChagSameachDoreen · 18/06/2022 23:12

My name is literally Sienna except I only have one n (so my name is Siena)

So it's not literally Sienna!

siennabelle · 18/06/2022 21:59

hey there!! My names actually Sienna and I have some nicknames that could work! My whole family and close friends usually call me CC/siesie/sisi (doesn't matter how you spell it, but it's basically just you saying the letter C two times!)
And also some people just call me sie, I've noticed not a lot of people just quickly find a nickname for me, but the ones that I have I do like them!!

Siena270 · 27/09/2021 10:19

My name is literally Sienna except I only have one n (so my name is Siena) and my best friend (that I have known forever) calls me Sisi or sometimes so make me laugh, Sassy, and sometimes she even just calls me the first letter of my name which is S

Amymone · 20/04/2020 15:13

My niece gets called Nenna

IVflytrap · 20/04/2020 12:46

Well, in some families, including my own growing up, having a shortened version of your name, or a nickname of some sort, is used to show affection among family and friends. I have a longer name I use for work and official things, and a shorter one that my family and friends use and I prefer it that way. I do know of families that never use nicknames or shortenings, and they seem more inclined to use endearments like love or darling instead, so I suppose it just boils down to differences in how different families do things.

pooopypants · 20/04/2020 11:26

I don't understand why people would name a child one thing but call them something else - William and Will for example. Just call them Will FGS!

I chose my DC's names purposely so they can't be shortened.

IVflytrap · 20/04/2020 10:50

Nina?

Sia
Sissy
Nene
Nia
Senny

Heh1991 · 20/04/2020 01:23

I know a Sienna who goes by Nia. I never really saw how it came from it exactly but I do think it’s super cute. She’s 12 and it suits her perfectly!

hazandduck · 19/04/2020 22:30

I get you on this one, OP. We had our second Dd a couple of months ago and called her Cleo but we did find it odd at first not being able to nickname her easily, our older Dd has a name with several shortenings! Well older Dd solved it for us because she can’t say Cleo and calls her Kilo 😄 So we call her Kilo or Keeks or Kiki now. We are one of those families that have to use a nickname! My point is I think even if you can’t think of a nickname now, I’m sure one will crop up naturally over time.

Sienna is a beautiful name and very summery, perfect for an August baby.

bridgetreilly · 19/04/2020 22:24

I don't think it matters at all if you don't have a shortened form of the name. A nickname may develop naturally, or not at all. Either way is fine.

RedandBluebox · 19/04/2020 22:17

Of course you're allowed a nn for the full name if you want! And of course it is something you can consider and ask advice about.

I love Sienna and we were thinking 'CC' as a nn if we go with it for a name.

It is likely that a nn will develop naturally or not.

Lexijayde44 · 19/04/2020 22:15

My DD is sienna. Shes 5 now.

Her nickname became nenna! Lol!!!

Funnily enough her younger sibling is two and calls hers nenna.

Sisi I've heard others use x

It doesn't need shortened in my view. We call her sienna and so do her her friends. We just say nenna or nenna bobs when we are Messing 😄
