Milo, Rilo or Arlo?

Hello!

My husband and I are having such a hard time finding a boy's name! For girls, we love names ending -a (Maya, Layla etc) and the ones we seem to like for boys end in -o.

We love Milo and Arlo, which I know are both pretty popular at the moment. We're also tempted by Rilo, as it's not unlike 'Riley' and reminds us of a band that is very special to us (called Rilo Kiley). However, we're a bit worried that it sounds too 'made up?'

What would you choose out of these three? And are there any other names like these that you've heard?

Thanks so much!

Rollo? Good Viking name! Rilo sounds a bit like someone with an outrageous Australian accent saying “Riley”.

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 19/04/2020 21:25

Not Rilo. It does sound made up and you’ll get different pronunciations like Rye-lo and Rill-o

GeraniumJohnsonsBlue · 19/04/2020 20:29

Rollo would be ok if you really like the R and it’s more unusual than Arlo or Milo.

PintOfBovril · 19/04/2020 20:25

How about Ivo?

87Callista · 19/04/2020 20:25

Rico
Barlow
Rio

GeraniumJohnsonsBlue · 19/04/2020 20:24

Rilo is not a name.

KindKylie · 19/04/2020 20:23

Definitely not Rilo

I like Arlo more than Milo

patronum · 19/04/2020 20:20

Rilo makes me think of rolos! Not necessarily a bad thing Grin

Milo is lovely, it was ruined for a while by the Tweenies but that’s old and forgotten now.

I like the sound of Arlo but it is getting very, very popular now.

Campervan69 · 19/04/2020 20:17

I love Milo and wanted to call our last son Milo until my husband pointed out with our surname his name at school would be My Low Ball. Couldn't inflict that on the poor little lamb.

Puppybum · 19/04/2020 20:17

You have picked some truly bad names, try again

Blursula · 19/04/2020 20:15

Enzo

Fantasiaa · 19/04/2020 20:13

Rilo isn’t a name but the other two are nice

BakewellGin1 · 19/04/2020 20:11

I like Arlo best but reminds me of the littlest dinosaur film my son liked..

Hugo
Leo
Theo
Jago

Blursula · 19/04/2020 20:07

Finlo? Its Manx (I think) has the option for nn Finn

I like Milo and Arlo but know several of both.

Leo (but also popular)
Cato
Jago
Nico

Arlo is what every reality TV 'star' in Hello Magazine calls their baby.

Rilo sounds a bit Star Wars.

Milo is ok. Reminds me of the powdered beverage.

CatSmize · 19/04/2020 20:05

Arlo is a lovely name! Milo is nice too. I love original names but, as others have said, Rilo sounds made up and I'm not a fan.

Whatsyourflava · 19/04/2020 20:05

NOT Rilo!
Arlo and Milo are two of my favourite names
Never met a Milo

Otto or Hugo could also be an option?

Victoria489 · 19/04/2020 20:03

Out of those three names, I think I would probably go for Milo. I'm not too keen on Arlo as I consider it a bit 'hipster', but don't let that stop you as I don't believe loads of people hold that view! I would say that Rilo does sound a bit made-up, but there are a lot of original names going around so it could be okay. In my area, I haven't heard of much Arlos and Milos being born, but I suppose it may be different where you live? Anyway, I suggest Milo would be the best choice (although I must say, I do associate it a bit with the Tweenies - not a problem however, I don't think they are on anymore ).

NameChange30 · 19/04/2020 20:03

Arlo
Not a big fan of Milo
NOT Rilo it definitely sounds made up

How about Ivo?

midnightstar66 · 19/04/2020 20:02

Another option Rico

midnightstar66 · 19/04/2020 20:02

Also if it helps I work in a school with nursery that has nearly 600 children and we don't have an Arlo, DD's go to an even larger school and I'm not aware of one there if popularity is an issue

CodenameVillanelle · 19/04/2020 20:02

Rilo Grin ffs no

Milo is nicer than Arlo but they are both nice enough

SlothRunner · 19/04/2020 20:01

Rilo sounds made up, what about Jago which is pronounced Jay-Go and I believe is Cornish

TheWordmeister · 19/04/2020 20:01

Love Arlo but t's getting a bit too popular.

Rilo is silly.

Wheresthebiffer2 · 19/04/2020 20:01

Paulo ? (it's a real name for a boy, not British though).
