Milo, Rilo or Arlo?

Hello!

My husband and I are having such a hard time finding a boy's name! For girls, we love names ending -a (Maya, Layla etc) and the ones we seem to like for boys end in -o.

We love Milo and Arlo, which I know are both pretty popular at the moment. We're also tempted by Rilo, as it's not unlike 'Riley' and reminds us of a band that is very special to us (called Rilo Kiley). However, we're a bit worried that it sounds too 'made up?'

What would you choose out of these three? And are there any other names like these that you've heard?

Thanks so much!

Cosmo is nice, and I like Nero too, but with the Italian pronunciation.

Milo is in the shops where I live. Green tin. I think it might be a bit like Ovaltine.

Bambooshoot · 21/04/2020 20:30

Milo is ok if you never leave the UK - otherwise it's a very well known chocolate drink - the equivalent of calling your child "Nesquik"!

If you like short names ending in "O", maybe try Bruno, Carlo, Claudio, Dario, Enrico, Enzo, Flavio, Marco, Mario, Marlo, Matteo, Nico, or Otto?

I kind of like Rilo actually. It’s be weird for about five minutes when you first met the child and then you’d stop noticing. It’s quite a cool sound and I like the band connection.

I like Roscoe

hoping2018 · 20/04/2020 22:45

How about Hugo?

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 20/04/2020 22:32

I know multiple dogs called Milo and Arlo. Rilo is also 100% made up.

NicoleNeill · 20/04/2020 22:26

I think if you both like Rilo go for it!
There are plenty of names that don't sound like names when you first hear it but just becomes the norm. Its different and unique, if you think that goes with your family then it's okay

HappyDinosaur · 20/04/2020 12:31

I like Arlo as I've known several pets called Milo.

IVflytrap · 20/04/2020 12:25

I would choose Milo. Not Arlo, definitely not Rilo.

As others have said, Rio could work. Or Rollo.

Enzo
Cosmo
Jethro
Inigo
Orlando

MrsJoshNavidi · 20/04/2020 11:19

Rilo sounds made up because it IS made up!

What about Hugo?

Or there's the Welsh boys name Iolo, which I love. It's pronounced "eeolo", with the the "ee" and the first "o" as very short vowel sounds.

The feminine form is Iola.

Jago and Milo are nice too.

Boireannachlaidir · 20/04/2020 11:18

What about Huey, Dewey or Louie? Smile

GeraniumJohnsonsBlue · 20/04/2020 11:14

The posh people will probably be called Rollo, not Rolo.

OP don't call your son Rolo. Rolo is a toffee. Grin

EyeShipMiceElf · 20/04/2020 11:14

Rollo makes me think of the name of a child who’s really overweight. Thinks it’s the Roly Poly association.

Chico? Grin
I like Rocco
Love Jago, Nico, Draco?

Bouledeneige · 20/04/2020 11:09

Rilo sounds made up and quite bad really. I have heard of some very posh people called Rolo and of course Roly for Roland, but I dont really like them.

I like Milo and Arlo. I also like Leo and Theo. But they are all very popular.

ScabbyHorse · 20/04/2020 11:05

Instead of Rilo what about Rio? I love that name.

Pastaforall · 20/04/2020 09:00

Never heard of Rilo

Arlo is the name of our CCTV system

I like Milo

MadameButterfingers · 20/04/2020 08:59

Rilo is nicknamey. Rollo is nicer.
Arlo is likely to be very popular.
Milo is a powdered drink, and sounds too much like Mealy.

stairgates · 20/04/2020 08:18

I like Enzo too of everything suggested :) The ones you suggested did remind me of pets names unfortunately.

babynamelover · 20/04/2020 08:14

My cats called Milo 😃. But there's also a Milo at my daughter's school in NZ and it works well for him.
I like the suggestion of Enzo!

Peppafrig · 20/04/2020 03:02

My dog is called Milo it's a fab name. We have meet a few other Milos out on walks too.

Astronica · 20/04/2020 02:52

Milo from your list.

Some unusual ones:
Rollo
Sholto
Mungo
Ivo
Viggo

WyfOfBathe · 20/04/2020 01:54

I love Arlo.

Rilo does sound a bit "we wanted to call our kid Milo but it wasn't unique enough" - sorry

Enough4me · 20/04/2020 00:57

Rio
Otto
Carlo
Niko

123Dancewithme · 20/04/2020 00:50

Finnemoo · 19/04/2020 22:06
