Sophia/Sofia/Tilly/Tillie/Primrose

Me again.... apologies in advance!
Having a wobble over Harper, I have a unisex uncommon name and it has always annoyed me growing up. Summer just doesn't seem to fit with Noah. Hope doesn't really go with the surname and it doesn't feel like "the one".

Older brother Noah. Short surname, 4 letters beginning with B.

Always loved Matilda but now can't use, close family member used and wouldn't feel comfortable using. Wondered whether I could use Tilly/Tillie instead as a given name?

Another name that strikes me as very pretty is Sophia/Sofia?

Then there is Primrose. Heard on "Call the Midwife" and adored the name. Could I use in real life? Or is it too oldy worldy now?

Thank you all :-)

Eden is unisex but I like it more for a girl!

GrendelsCat · 18/04/2020 09:55

Oh no! For what it's worth, I love the name Summer and would go with that in a heartbeat. I think it pairs nicely with Noah. Good luck!

noahsmum256 · 18/04/2020 09:48

It feels like I will never find a girls name I even vaguely like..... ahhhhh!

GrendelsCat Unforunately I have a bad association with the name Tabitha from my childhood.
This is where its so challenging, as where I work I meet alot of people and I associate names with people I have known of that name instantly.

If you like Tilly but Matilda's not an option, what about Tabitha nn Tibby? There's a Tibby at my daughter's playgroup and she's just lovely.

noahsmum256 · 18/04/2020 08:56

SnowsInWater Noah is my favourite name ever and nothing quite compares to that! Ive settled on boys name as its one I also loved when I had Noah.
I don't think I realised how much I loved Matilda until I couldn't use it anymore.

I love Cora and think it is quite unusual, Sophia/Sophie are also beautiful. Tbh I wouldn't worry too much about "matching" names, I also have a Noah - his brother has a French name (for his dad) and his sister has an Irish name (me). There is absolutely no link between them. Noah is still my favourite name ever though and although it is very popular now he was the only Noah all the way through his school Smile

CountFosco
Thank you for your post. I thought about biblical girls names but literally don't like any!
Caroline just doesnt do it for me im afraid.
I prefer slightly more common names to be totally honest.

Of your choices I like Harper best. Sophia/Sofia is an excellent name, Hope and Eden are nice but I don't like them with Noah, together it becomes a bit Bible themed. Not keen on Summer and really don't like Primrose, it's too fussy (Rose is beautiful though, go figure), prefer Matilda to Tilly (depends how close the relative is, but in previous generations it was common for cousins to have the same name, DH is from a large catholic family and they all have the same names, family gatherings are confusing!).

Noah is an excellent name. Do you want to stick with Biblical? Then classics like Rachel, Rebecca, or Sarah would go with it.

If you like Cora (I do too), then what about Caro(line) which is beautiful and due a revival. But if you like Harper go with that, I only know female Harpers anyway so would assume female.

careworkerandproud · 18/04/2020 07:57

Love Primrose also I think its nice as a middle name with Tilly or Sophia

Sophia Primrose
Tilly Primrose

babynamelover · 18/04/2020 07:49

I'll go against the grain I like Sophia with Noah even if it's a little similar sounding they go nicely. Sophia Primrose would be beautiful 😍.

I adore Cora would have used it but hubby is Corie 😂.

I love Summer, it’s such a happy name. Primrose is really pretty too.
Tally or Talia?

matilda2508 · 18/04/2020 03:17

hahah, my name is Matilda and my surname before i got married was a 4 letter beginning with B! My name was always shortened to tilly and i loved it being Matilda because i knew i always had to option to have that instead, however i’m not sure on Tilly on it’s own, people always told me it made me sound posh. Nevertheless, i love my name and wouldn’t change it for the world. I personally think sophia is too common, and hope i just don’t feel is a solid name for some reason. Some other names that i feel are along the same names are
flora
Mila
margot
eden
tallulah
i really like cora too, and it goes well with Noah

I have only met girl Edens, and though in theory unisex it is almost always used for girls these days. A good name.
I love Primrose. Very cool, a bit edgy, but gorgeous and great nickname options - Posy, Rosy, Rose, Pim, Prim, Romy, all of which I like. I like both Primrose and Eden next to Noah.
Sophia - lovely, and sounds like it will be great with the surname.
I agree that Hope does't sound good with surname, and possibly Harper not great with it either. I like Tilly though not sure about using it on its own. Can also be a nn for Ottilie (though not keen on Ottilie myself). I really like Summer, though it sounds like not the one for you.
In short, Primrose, Eden and Sophia all work I think. I'd focus on what works with the surname best rather than with brother Noah though.

noahsmum256 · 17/04/2020 23:03

Flynn999 Matilda and Tilly would not end up at school together. We live opposite ends of the country. Im worried it sounds a bit matchy with my name though anyway.
Wren doesn't sit right to me, as its a bird not a name. Hope I don't offend anyone. And Rose/Rosie I couldn't use due to an association sadly.

Flynn999 · 17/04/2020 22:47

I think if a close family member has used Matilda and you feel uncomfortable using it, I wouldavoid Tilly/tillie. I would think that's a fairly standard abbreviation of Matilda. You may find that your friends Matilda could easily end up being Tilly once she's at primary school etc.

Primrose... hate it. Their is a caravan park near me called primrose valley. I genuinely don't have think it works well as a name.

Love Sofia out of your list and I prefer this spelling over the other

Someone suggested Eden, I always thought this as a female name. Never met a boy called Eden?

Love the suggestion someone put forward of either Wren or Rosie/Rose.

Whatsyourflava · 17/04/2020 22:36

Not so keen on Primrose
Sophia, Cora or Tilly are lovely. I really love Tilda too. Nickname Tilly ❤️

noahsmum256 · 17/04/2020 22:33

123Dancewithme I did think that and its putting me off that there are nearly as many boy Eden's as girl Eden's.

OP posts:
Mitzdob · 17/04/2020 22:31

Primrose

Ikeameatballs · 17/04/2020 22:29

Primrose! Go for it!

123Dancewithme · 17/04/2020 22:26

Noah and Eden seem very ‘Bible story’ together

123Dancewithme · 17/04/2020 22:25

I like Sophia and Primrose best.

Morgan12 · 17/04/2020 21:44

Eden.

Sophia is way too popular. Primrose doesn't go with Noah.

Noah and Eden sounds lovely.

georgialondon · 17/04/2020 21:42

I love Sophia. I had that on my list before

noahsmum256 · 17/04/2020 21:39

Thank you daisypond
Did also think of Eden but not sure if its too unisex?
