Hi all, DH and I are discussing names and this one we actually seem to agree on. What are your thoughts?

It's come up on a couple of threads but I thought it may be helpful for us and some others to have some thoughts on this name itself.

Really not keen sounds like a bumbling posh man in red trousers

TheOrigBrave · 18/04/2020 10:10

I know a boy called Monty, no one thinks he's a Labrador. I think he gets called Mont quite a bit which I'm not so keen on.

AmelieTaylor · 18/04/2020 10:05

I actually really like it for both a little boy & a man. I thInk its at and a shame you appear to have discounted it now.

There are names I think are better for animals (Rex, Felix, Rufus etc) but not Monty.

VerbenaGirl · 18/04/2020 10:02

We know a Monty, he’s 8 now and it’s a fab name.

Crookshanksthecat · 18/04/2020 09:59

Love it! One of my favourite names.
It's also not just a dog's name!

ohmysoul · 18/04/2020 09:46

Monty is on my list too! I love it.

yestonodressyet · 18/04/2020 09:42

I love monty, we have it on our list and will use Montgomery after the field marshal

babynamelover · 18/04/2020 07:52

I wouldn't be put off by the dog comments 😂

I know a Monte he's nearly five, itsa great name! :)

user1477391263 · 18/04/2020 02:27

It's awful. Just really silly and comic sounding.

whattodo2019 · 17/04/2020 23:02

I have a fab Monty Benjamin.
He adores his name too!! BTW he's 13

AllTheWhoresOfMalta · 17/04/2020 22:43

The dog. Who wears glasses.

Monty :)
FaithHopeandGlory · 17/04/2020 22:33

I think we would've used Montague or Montgomery for the fn and Monty for nn. It's pretty much gone from our list now though haha!

Back to the drawing board!

@MrsGrindah Monty Don is a grown up. It doesnt sound childish on him I don't think?

Jossina · 17/04/2020 22:31

As a nickname for Montagu it could work. Depends on your surname.

123Dancewithme · 17/04/2020 22:27

I know two Montys, they are both Westies.

user1493494961 · 17/04/2020 21:42

I like it, I know a little Monty who's 3, a lovely boy and it really suits him.

Wolfgirrl · 17/04/2020 19:52

Makes me think of Mr Burns from the Simpsons!

DuchessofBolton · 17/04/2020 19:45

Montgomery Clift for me too. He was gorgeous.

ThunderR0ad78 · 17/04/2020 19:42

Yep I think of a gorgeous Labrador too not a little boy! Sorry x

MerryDeath · 17/04/2020 19:38

ilikebigbuttsandicannotlie · 17/04/2020 19:37

NameChange30 · 17/04/2020 19:37

Ps I don't know many dogs but I do know one called Monty

MonaCorona · 17/04/2020 19:37

Lovely name.

neighbourhoodwitch · 17/04/2020 19:37

Love it!! Go for it!

Goostacean · 17/04/2020 19:36

I don’t know many dogs, let alone ones called Monty... I think it’s a very cute name. Classy without being pretentious. I imagine Monty with a quiff and impeccable manners. Certainly a refreshing change from all the Noahs, Zacs and Leos out there!
