Zac, Zach or Zak

Hi, we're having a boy and have decided on a name, but not the spelling! He's not going to be called Zachary/Zakary on the birth cert, we want the shortened version only. Which spelling would you go for?

Zac

ifoughtforliberty · 17/04/2020 17:22

Zack is my favourite spelling by far

DeRigueurMortis · 17/04/2020 17:22

Zach - I think it stands alone better and looks nicer written down.

It's somehow a bit softer a name than the other choices - odd sentiment I know as the pronunciation is identical.

PeppaisaBitch · 17/04/2020 17:20

Has anyone else read zach so many times it stopped sounding like a real word?

MotherOfAllNameChanges · 17/04/2020 17:18

Zack

LibbyDoollally · 17/04/2020 17:17

Thanks all, this is really interesting to get so many responses!

Well yes @spiderlight if we were, but we're not using those names, only the shortened version.

I do prefer Zack to either Zac or Zak. But Zach from your options.

spiderlight · 17/04/2020 17:11

Zach if you use 'Zachary' or 'Zak' for Zakary.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 17/04/2020 17:08

I like Zac

BoswellsBollocks · 17/04/2020 17:08

I have a Zachary shortened to Zach.

Whichever way you spell it, he’ll get all sorts of various spellings at school and written in cards. we even had a card written to Sach

Myohmy123 · 17/04/2020 17:07

Zack

LibbyDoollally · 17/04/2020 17:06

@hannahfaith we're not using either - we're going for the short version only

I have a Zachary who is Zach. I hate Zak. It looks like something that should be in a comic book will "pow!" Zack is ok.

albiongirl · 17/04/2020 17:02

@LibbyDoollally I went to school with a lovely boy called Zak, that gets my vote Smile

Troels · 17/04/2020 16:59

Nephew is Zackery, and called Zack. I like this spelling.

Mumma4262 · 17/04/2020 16:59

I also know a Zakaria who goes by Zak.

Mumma4262 · 17/04/2020 16:58

I too am going to add Zack to the mix.

I know of two little Zack’s and prefer this spelling.

hannahfaith · 17/04/2020 16:57

I think it depends what spelling of Zachary / Zakary you use.
If you use Zakary it would be strange to use Zac or Zach because there is no letter c in the name
Similarly if you use Zachary then using Zak would look strange because there is no K.

Personally I would use Zachary and call him Zach (if you like the k I know a few people called Zack)

NameChange30 · 17/04/2020 16:50

Zack

KindnessCrusader · 17/04/2020 16:49

Zach

LibbyDoollally · 17/04/2020 16:47

nuffsaidsam meant to say it would more commonly be Zakaria. But we want the one syllable version anyway.

Zechariah - shortened time Zach but I’m a traditionalist and like long names

Whoops. Wanted to add, which is the spelling I prefer personally but Zak/Zakary is fine too. Zac seems too simple when you could have more spelling interest but of course some people prefer the simplicity.
