Boys names - so difficult

Clemmie83 · 17/04/2020 14:48

So we're really struggling to find a single boys name that we like! I think they're so much harder than girls names...

So far we have the following shortlist however I'm not sure I particularly love any of them!

Theo
Rafferty
Albie
Wilbur
Blake

Would be great to get some thoughts or suggestions of other similar names!

I think Rafferty Blake sounds great.

Whatsyourflava · 18/04/2020 16:14

Yeh I love Rafferty and Blake
Favourite is Blake though

I wouldn’t focus on how the names flow as most of the time it’ll just be the first name being used anyway. A middle name, for me, is good because it gives the person an option for an alternative name if he decides he doesn’t like his first name. So pick another name you like like “Blake” not a name that you think flows well with Rafferty. If that makes sense

LizzieMacQueen · 18/04/2020 16:11

Rafferty Blake sounds a tiny bit like an advertising company or a lawyers firm. But that's just because it's 2 surnames.

I like Euan, Caleb, Hector and from your list, Albie.

maria860 · 18/04/2020 16:06

Albie is the best I like Albert I dislike all the others sorry

Clemmie83 · 18/04/2020 14:21

I suppose I could always use both - Rafferty Blake!

Theo would be my pick from your list. Very nice

TheVanguardSix · 18/04/2020 10:58

Oh, I read the thread and I see you're leaning towards Rafferty! This too is a gorgeous name. And if you and your DH both love it, why not?

TheVanguardSix · 18/04/2020 10:56

Blake is wonderful! And it's a name you just don't hear.

I have an 18 year old Theo(dore) and as much as I love this name (it will always be my favourite), it's soooo popular. It's on everyone's list.

Blake is a cool, cool name OP. It's original. I love it.

pinkpinecone · 18/04/2020 10:53

Rafferty - Really like this as love Raff as the nn.
Theo - Great name but so so popular that I'm starting to get a tad bored of hearing it.
Blake - Haven't really heard this but quite like it.
Wilbur - Not keen
Albie - Not keen

How about any of the below?

Reuben
Rudy
Nico
Emil
Cass
Casper
Otto
Otis
Louis
Lucas
Finn
Wilfred
Gabriel

DerekMorganswife · 18/04/2020 10:41

We had Rafferty on our list too. We also had:
Malachi
Emerson
Cillian
Fabian

albiongirl · 18/04/2020 10:31

I know a Rafferty, nickname is Raff Smile

Whatsyourflava · 18/04/2020 10:25

I really like Rafferty (nn Rafe or Raffy) or how about Raphael

babynamelover · 18/04/2020 10:25

I love Raffery 😍.
Maybe you would like Roscoe?

autumnkate · 18/04/2020 10:16

What about Rafe instead of Rafferty?

I don’t like Rafferty but then I don’t like surnames as first names.

Standrewsschool · 18/04/2020 10:14

The Raffety i know is known as Raff.

Clemmie83 · 18/04/2020 09:53

Out of interest what are common nicknames for Rafferty? Raff? Raffy?

I love Wilbur and rafferty, I'd like them for DC2 on the way but DH isn't keen. How about:
Rufus
Monty
Digby
Ralph
Henry

Clemmie83 · 18/04/2020 09:24

Maybe I'm swaying more towards Rafferty...

OP posts:
MummaSt · 17/04/2020 19:51

For what it’s worth the Wilbur I know is definitely Wilbur and not Will, that said, he’s 3 so his friends haven’t decided his nickname... yet!

I think Rafferty is a great choice. Not too poncey IMO (maybe just a little bit, but I quite like that!)

userabcname · 17/04/2020 19:01

I don't like Theo but I like all the rest of your list! I'd probably go for Rafferty. How about Raphael or Gabriel?

sorryiasked · 17/04/2020 18:53

I like Blake best on your list.
How about:
Crispin
Fabian

Clemmie83 · 17/04/2020 18:53

Thanks all so far, so pleased you like my list, I was a bit nervous about posting as I've seen so many names slated on here!

Not sure why I'm not in love with any of the names...

Quite keen on Rafferty but not sure if it sounds a bit poncey? My Husband isn't overly keen on Blake or Theo. Wilbur I'd be worried would be shortened to Will which I'm not overly keen on and not sure if Albie is strong enough?! I seem to be the most critical of my list! 🤣
