Lottie or Charlotte?

We both really love the name Lottie, but after some Google searches to find a middle name, lots of people seem to be suggesting that it would be best to go with Charlotte as her official name / name on birth certificate.

We don't dislike Charlotte, but also don't also love it. Do you think Lottie is too 'cute' for an adult? Thinking of application forms / interviews etc in the future?

We would only ever call her Lottie.
She would either be,

Lottie Elizabeth (Elizabeth is the name of both of our grandma's)
Lottie Florence
Lottie May

Our last name is Jamieson and we already have a daughter named Evelyn (Grace)

Thanks x

Use Charlotte as official if you wish.

Sorry to post again, I pressed send before I had finished.

I do think that Lottie is too cutesy at times for an adult. It sounds like a nickname... imagine she’s a barrister one day, introducing herself as a Lottie?

NuffSaidSam · 15/04/2020 23:05

I'd go with Charlotte, nice for her to have options when she's older.

Evelyn is a very grown up, could be a doctor/lawyer/judge, name. Lottie is very cutesy/babyish in comparison.

Lottie is a lovely name but I would always put the full name on the birth certificate. Charlotte is a good strong name. If you call her Lottie, people will just assume she’s a Charlotte anyway.

Whatsyourflava · 15/04/2020 23:03

I’d just put Lottie on her birth certificate to be honest - my birth certificate name is technically a nickname for a longer name and I’m very happy that when people ask if it’s short for anything I can just say “no”, rather than “my full name is X but please call me Y”. Nah. Lottie is lovely

Also my Lottie says that she would prefer to just be a Lottie as she will never be known as anything else. She is 15

I have Charlotte Evie. She is lottie and always has been but we wanted to give her options when she was older if she didn't 'look' or 'feel' like a lottie. She couldn't be anything else. She is completely a lottie x

My dd is Charlotte but called.lottie. I wish we had Lottie on her BC but dh wasn't keen. W got given loads of stuff with C initials.or Charlotte on for her first Christmas and it's just not her name to me

Charlotte Florence “Lottie”

IsolaPribby · 15/04/2020 22:04

Charlotte Elizabeth is absolutely beautiful, and you can call her Lottie, but she will have lots of options if she wants as she grows up.

Sunshine1235 · 15/04/2020 22:01

I think Charlotte is a beautiful name and it would be a shame not to give her the option when as you said Lottie could be a little bite cutsie when she’s older. But lots of people are called nicknames as their main name now so I wouldn’t panic too much if you really love Lottie and aren’t a fan of Charlotte then go for it (she’ll probably get some people assume she is called Charlotte but that’s not the end of the world)
