So here are my names that I like so far. I'm pretty settled on my girls name which is Meadow..I know its unusual but it just feels right and I actually got the idea from a dream I had years ago.

The surname will be Desombre which is pronounced Desom.

Boys names..I've always liked Hunter but it has become more popular but still like it. Middle name will be Vicente which is OHs grandad name.

I also like
Archer
Euan
Grayson.

What's everyone's thoughts?

@Blursula, I'm not picking apart the OP's surname. I'm just suggesting that is how people will say the name.

Think about it, Meadow Desombre sound a bit gloomy

That it is pronounced Desom wouldn't occur to most people.

Wouldn't you prefer someone to point this out now?

MikeUniformMike · 15/04/2020 13:14

Maybe you don't pronounce the -BRE but in the UK, people will. if you are not in the UK, it might not matter.

I definitely hear the r in the french word sombre.

The english word sombre pronunciation is here:
translate.google.co.uk/#view=home&op=translate&sl=en&tl=en&text=sombre

Archer - love
Euan - no - bit boring
Grayson. - love

How about
Rudy/Rudi
Tristan
Barnaby
Otis
Ellis
Bodhi
River
Otto
Cole
Blake

As a PP said, we have very different tastes in names. I don’t really like any of your choices and I’m not sure how well they match your surname.

MikeUniformMike · 15/04/2020 13:08

OP, if you read my post, you will see that I am not suggesting you change the pronunciation of your surname, I'm saying that some people will say it differently.

userabcname · 15/04/2020 13:03

I like Archer for a boy.

Jadegkeaney · 15/04/2020 13:01

@blursula I know I dont really know where they were going with the surname lol I still dont think they get the pronunciation of it Haha. I've always like the surname, its unique anyway. I think I will have to wait and see the baby to be 100% sure anyway. But yeah I liked the Sopranos aswell.

Love Meadow 🥰

Blursula · 15/04/2020 12:26

I love Meadow (makes me think of the Sopranos!) and my favourite from your boys list is Archer.

No idea why someone is picking apart your surname. How incredibly rude.

Natt99 · 15/04/2020 11:59

I love the name Meadow, first heard it mentioned in orange is the new black tv show as it's one of the characters friends. Tempted to use it myself if I have a girl...
Out of the boys I think Euan is the nicest. Archer makes me think of Jeffery archer or the radio show, may not be well known in the future though.
I know someone with a boy called Grayson, Nn Gray, everyone thinks his name is Graham though so they have to explain x

Jadegkeaney · 15/04/2020 10:19

@MikeUniformMike I cant really change the pronunciation of my partners surname lol . Middle name is set his grandad was such a character.. he was Spanish and meant to world to my OH. In regards to WW1 I dont think peers in the class would ever make a connection like that..you just dont pronounce the BRE at the end of name. Yes think it has French origin.

Meadow is actually a name ..albeit very old but we love it.

Love your girls' name and sounds very pretty with surname. I'm not keen on 'son' endings for first names unless they're actually the son of someone.
What about Sawyer, Rex, Harlan, Elijah, Jasper, Victor,

custodiandiscount · 15/04/2020 09:59

I think Grayson Desombre is a bit odd sounding (som - som)

Meadow doesn't work, it sounds like a school, sorry. With a different surname it would be nice eg Smith!

Euan I really like, Hunter too

DoctorBambino · 15/04/2020 09:57

I LOVE Meadow. Would never be brave enough to use it myself but think I might consider it as a middle name.

I also like your boys name choices. I think Euan goes the best with your surname and the middle name.

MikeUniformMike · 15/04/2020 09:55

I quite like Odin. Vicente is nice too.

MikeUniformMike · 15/04/2020 09:54

We have different taste in names.

Euan is nice, Hunter is ok. I don't like Grayson or Archer at all.

Meadow is a nice word for a field.

Meadow Desombre sounds like a housing estate. I would sound the r at the end of the surname, but it's not my name.
The Somme has strong associations with WW1, so I'd think of a muddy battlefield.

I'm guessing the surname is French. In the UK it is likely to be pronounced De Somber. Sombre can mean serious in not a good way.

Jadegkeaney · 15/04/2020 09:54

Forgot, I also like Odin for a boy Grin
