Verity?

Does anyone else like, or even think the name Verity is ok?!
I have always liked it but when I've mentioned it to a few others I've been met by looks of disgust 😂

I love Verity and would have called our DD that but DH vetoed it sadly

CaffiSaliMali · 15/04/2020 10:17

Forgot to add Lyra to that list!

CaffiSaliMali · 15/04/2020 10:16

I like it, but DH doesn't - thinks of Ferrety. I probably wouldn't use it anyway as I worry with virtue names that the child may be the complete opposite. I went to school with the most ungraceful Grace you could imagine.

I would avoid it, and any name beginning with V with the surname Wise.

Most of my name list is Welsh, but some names in the non-Welsh section with Verity are:

Rosa
Evangeline
Iseult
Romilly
Cassia
Aveline

I like a previous poster's suggestion of Arrietty. What about Aristy? I worked with a lovely Aristy so feel I can't use it myself.

Astronica · 14/04/2020 23:56

I quite like it but not with your surame.

Lampan · 14/04/2020 23:54

The Verity I know was known as Vez at school. Never Very. Maybe Vez doesn’t go with your surname either though?

catfeets · 14/04/2020 23:49

I love it. I suggested it for our baby girl and my DP said no :(

Krisskrosskiss · 14/04/2020 23:49

I think it's a lovely name

Wheresthebiffer2 · 14/04/2020 23:46

I'm not keen, sorry. Reminds me of Vera, which is a old lady name, and not in a cute way, more of a nicotine stained finger and yellow hair way.

123Dancewithme · 14/04/2020 23:42

Ferrety

TFthatsover · 14/04/2020 23:25

Love it. Know a lovely teen Verity, she doesn't shorten it.

schafernaker · 14/04/2020 23:12

Dd goes to nursery with a lovely Verity (2)

Enough4me · 14/04/2020 22:32

I prefer Imogen.

Sewingbea · 14/04/2020 22:30

How about Ferelith? It's Gaelic, has a similar feel perhaps?

HL123 · 14/04/2020 22:15

Thanks all - agree Verity Wise maybe isn't the best idea, such a shame as it's been my favourite name since I was little! Thankyou for the other suggestions, Imogen and Tabitha are pretty

My niece is Verity. Not to my taste but she suits it.

aneliese · 14/04/2020 22:10

Her being V. Wise would put me off I'm afraid.

Meltedwellie · 14/04/2020 22:09

It sounds a bit prim but it’s ok

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 14/04/2020 22:07

I love the name. I would have loved it for one of mine but it was the name of my daughter's best friend. She was a very sweet, generous little girl that any one would have been proud of so I always have fond memories of it.

Verily1 · 14/04/2020 22:05

I like it

Sewingbea · 14/04/2020 22:04

Lovely name but maybe not with your surname, initials would be VW which isn't great. Could you use it as a middle name?

Sheepareawesome · 14/04/2020 22:00

I love it, it was on our list but we just had boys. Not sure about it with your surname though.

Oakeyy · 14/04/2020 21:58

V. Wise

AppleKatie · 14/04/2020 21:57

It’s a lovely name but I don’t think you can call her very wise!

Also I’ve read/seen ‘find me’ once too often and name has sad connotations now.

nativityhumbug · 14/04/2020 21:54

Love!

Cat0115 · 14/04/2020 21:51

I'"M a teacher, never taught a Verity (20 years teaching secondary) so I called my daughter... Verity!
