Lara?

I am in love with the name Lara for DD1. DH likes it but I'm not sure he's as in love with it as I am.

What do you all think of Lara and are there any other short, sophisticated and less popular names that would compare to Lara? (None starting with a hard C please)

I have one so I'm biased but have to say despite it being well liked on MN I've yet to come across another IRL so I wouldn't worry about it being too popular. I don't think it's even in the top 100.

I have a teenage Lara. We've met very few other Laras over the years. The only people who think she is called Laura, not Lara, are people who don't have English as a first language.

I assumed Lara was one of the names that used to be popular as I knew a few as a teen & then Tomb raider etc

I like Cara, Zara and Lara. Lara is definitely very pretty but a lot of the appeal is because it's underused. I can see it picking up in popularity because it's so pretty and turning into a popular "ar" sounding name like Arlo has done and losing some of its charm. The only downside with sharing on mumsnet is it plants the seed of a beautiful name in the minds of several mommas at once and before you know it there are a gazillion Lara's, Eleanor's, Lucy's and Ophelia's 😂🙈🙈

Arla, like the dairy company? That's a name I'd avoid tbh, but Lara is beautiful.

I think Lara is beautiful and really underused.

How about Mara as an alternative? (Although still prefer Lara)

I also know an Arla which I love too.

Lara is lovely. I only know one little Lara and she’s a lovely girl. I don’t think many would read it as Laura tbh.
