Hope

Can I just ask for your honest opinions on Hope please?
I keep coming back to it. However, in my head I keep doubting whether it would work on a "real person".
Ive done some googling and some sites say Hope gets nicknames such as Hopefull or worse Hopeless. Which obviously wouldn't be great if there was teasing potential. Hmm....
Also, would Hope go with Noah? Or not really?

Thank you 😊

I much prefer Hope over Harper. While it's not a name I love there's nothing wrong with it and it's perfectly usable. I wouldn't worry about things like ' hopeless' etc as you can do this with any name. I also wouldn't worry to much about what goes with Noah - that's very subjective.

Very nice

MamaGothel · 12/04/2020 21:42

I love Hope, I think it's a beautiful name

daisypond · 12/04/2020 21:37

If you’re not sure, you could consider Hester. It has the H to start and ends in -er like Harper, but is Biblical and an established name like Noah.

BrandoraPaithwaite · 12/04/2020 21:32

Hope is absolutely great. Strong, gentle, meaningful, understated.

Harper is very popular at the moment and will massively date.

HopeClearwater · 12/04/2020 21:21

It’s my username, which I took from one of my favourite literary characters. I think it’s a lovely name. I only know one IRL, a teenager.

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 12/04/2020 21:18

I love it ,but I'm biased since it's my best friend's name.

We also had a baby with the name in a larger friendship group so she was Baby Hope.

GameOfGroans · 12/04/2020 21:15

I've taught a child called Hope. She was an absolute darling- it's a lovely name.

daisypond · 12/04/2020 21:14

Hope is vastly more classy than Harper.

The shortening for Hope is Hoe 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Whatsyourflava · 12/04/2020 21:08

Harper is loads nicer than Hope @noahsmum256

LightACandleHoney · 12/04/2020 20:56

(If that’s what you’re looking for!) Hope is beautiful though!

LightACandleHoney · 12/04/2020 20:55

I feel your pain OP - Biblical girls names are hard! We could have had a football team of boys, but really struggled with girls names and yet ended up with 3 girls! We ended up choosing names based on their meanings rather than being specifically Biblical names. Some Hebrew names have really beautiful God centred names.

GaaaaarlicBread · 12/04/2020 20:49

What about Abigail or Esther ? They’re biblical and go well with Noah (which is a lovely name by the way!)

noahsmum256 · 12/04/2020 20:11

GaaaaarlicBread Sadly there aren't really any biblical girls names I like.

Oh, I love Hope. If I'd had another daughter, she would've been Hope.

cptartapp · 12/04/2020 19:59

Hannah is more biblical and goes with Noah. Heidi is lovely.
I know a Hope, have never liked the name. Harper even less.

user47000000000 · 12/04/2020 19:57

Absolutely gorgeous.
Was on my list for my long awaited DD.

GaaaaarlicBread · 12/04/2020 19:55

I do like it , but it’s quite popular here . As a middle name it would be lovely too! I met triplets once who, no word of a lie, were called Hope, Faith & Grace haha . I’m not a huge fan of virtue names But Hope is ok and goes well with Noah. But what about another biblical name to go with Noah?

Lanely · 12/04/2020 19:49

Hope and Faith are much nicer names than Harper in my opinion. Go for it!

IDontLikeMondays88 · 12/04/2020 19:44

Hope is better than Harper. I do quite like Harper but it’s a bit of a celeb name because of Posh and Becks. Hope is a bit more unusual and apt at the current time.

I really like virtue names though, we have Faith on our shortlist.

Cosyblanky · 12/04/2020 19:42

I wouldn't go with Hope, just because the word comes up so much in common language, something you may not notice how much until it's your own child's name.
'Its hopeless' 'Hope to see you soon' 'I hope we don't get rained off' etc etc

noahsmum256 · 12/04/2020 19:35

Wow.... Im truly overwhelmed by reading such positive reponses to the name Hope.
Its thrown a massive spanner in the works. As I was almost set on Harper for a girl and Hope just came to me. I kept changing Harper for Hope, hence the decision to ask you all to get the general consenus on the name......
Now I'm in a quandry what to do?! 🤔

It’s a lovely name, and fitting with the time too.
