Naima

Hay Daffodil

I'm expecting my first and extremely overjoyed to be expecting a DD.

I completely adore the John Coltrane song Naima which is what inspired this choice.

What do you think of this name and does it go ok with the middle name Marie? TIA

It’s a lovely name.

WatchingTheBears · 05/05/2020 02:37

The loveliest girl I ever taught was called Naima. It’s a beautiful name.

converseandjeans · 04/05/2020 00:00

I taught a girl called Naima and she was lovely. She's a Muslim girl so not sure it would go with a traditional British name? It's nice though.

K1mberlylauren · 03/05/2020 23:56

Lovely

NameChange84 · 30/04/2020 23:12

Love Naima. I’m surprised so many people don’t know how to pronounce it! It’s a popular Arabic name.

87Callista · 30/04/2020 20:52

Don't feel like you need to "think about Aimee".

Naima is beautiful. The reason/s you like it will give her a story to tell too. Go for it.

LotusClover · 30/04/2020 14:37

Looks pretty, and sounds nice when said correctly. But I would have seen this name and assumed it was pronounced "name-a".

daisypond · 30/04/2020 13:12

It’s nice.

123Dancewithme · 30/04/2020 12:31

I know one who spells it Na’ima. I really like it.

Mumwith4kidzz · 30/04/2020 05:36

Reginabambina · 30/04/2020 05:25

It’s a very popular Islamic name. I like it a great deal, I am related to one who was absolutely lovely. It’s not very universal though so some people struggle to pronounce it with nay-EE-ma being the most common pronunciation I’ve heard from English speakers.

Happymama24 · 30/04/2020 04:48

We named our daughter Naiima sounding like (ny ee ma). It's a beautiful name we still love it she will be 9 soon

Orphlids · 09/04/2020 11:03

@Jamiladodger, I’m listening to Naima right now - hadn’t heard it in years until you mentioned it. I’d forgotten how beautiful it is. Yes, yes, yes to your choice. And it would be great if it could be the first piece of music you play to your daughter after she’s born. My son was born to Dizzy Gillespie’s The Champ, which isn’t exactly calming, but it did seem quite appropriate! So excited for you. x

MikeUniformMike · 09/04/2020 09:51

I'd say it Na-ee-ma. It's nice.
I'd spell it Naeema - probably because I am familiar with the name Naeem (a woman) but it Naim/Naeem is usually a man's name.

It is an arabic name, so the vowels are still ok whichever way you spell it. I would go with whichever is acceptable to you. I think that the meaning is more than restful.

Use it.

VenusClapTrap · 09/04/2020 08:23

Quite like it

PotteryLottery · 08/04/2020 23:39

Love it . Can also be spelt Naeema.

3xmother · 08/04/2020 23:35

Think about Aimee 👌

Lmbunny · 08/04/2020 23:30

I think it's a beautiful name!
Personally I wouldn't choose Marie with it though, maybe a name with one syllable like Rose or similar.

Congratulations OP Smile

FazakAli · 08/04/2020 23:29

Naima is a Muslim girls name meaning delight or contentedness. Beautiful name with two beautiful meanings.

Jamiladodger · 08/04/2020 23:29

@Orphlids this touches my heart.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 08/04/2020 23:27

Beautiful

Orphlids · 08/04/2020 23:27

John Coltrane Is brilliant inspiration. So cool and timeless. I have a big framed photo of him on my wall. My daughter is named after a character in my favourite opera and I love the association between the music and my child. I really like your choice and that it reflects a passion of yours.

ladybirdsarelovely33 · 08/04/2020 23:25

Pretty name- go for it

babynamelover · 08/04/2020 23:25

It's beautiful is that the usual spelling or is there one that's more phonetically easier? This may not matter to you. 😊
