What do you think of the name Fabian? I like that it is not popular but still has a classic feel to it

Love Fabian/Fabienne. The few I know as adults are really lovely.

Really like Etienne and Laurent as well.

DramaAlpaca · 07/04/2020 17:00

Too much of a political association for me.

ArsenicNLace · 07/04/2020 16:58

It's my son's middle name.

Not because I like it but my ex let my have my favourite first name so I felt duty bound to let him choose the middle name. He got a baby naming book and after nearly 6 weeks (we had one day to get him registered!!!) he'd only got up to the F's in his book and I didn't think Fabian was too awful.

I do call my son Fab 'first name' so it has grown on me although he did thank me for not letting his Dad call him Fabian as a first name. In his words, 'I'd have been sooooo bullied!'.

Having said that our second son's middle name is truely awful but it was my exes Dad who died 9 months before he was born so again I was on rocky ground objecting.

I like it but I live in a Germanic country where we say Fab-ian, shortened to Fabi. Fay-bien sounds stupid though. Fabien is a girls name so the British pronunciation sounds even sillier!

Florian is nice too, but only if you live somewhere where Rs are pronounced!

TheReluctantCountess · 07/04/2020 16:49

I like it a lot.

roarfeckingroar · 07/04/2020 16:46

Sounds nice. Too big a connection to Labour.

FizzyGreenWater · 07/04/2020 16:20

Ptolemy

Victor

Sebastian (not unusual but the most beautiful)

Torquil

Severus

Urban

Kester

Jolyon

etc.

FizzyGreenWater · 07/04/2020 16:18

It should be super cool and interesting but somehow it misses the mark because as an actual word to say, as a name, it's just not that nice. It doesn't have a good short form - A Boy Called Fay doesn't quite cut it I think - and it's too jerky, the syllables are just hard to say somehow? if that makes sense? Fay-bee-an. It's too much. It's not lovely. And the German prn is nicer but you'd have to be correcting people.

If you want a really interesting international unusual choice there are lots nicer out there!

Bezalelle · 06/04/2020 22:51

Appalling.

123Dancewithme · 06/04/2020 22:33

I like it but prefer the German pronunciation. Not so keen on “fay-bee-an”

VenusClapTrap · 06/04/2020 21:57

Love it

WhereDidMyEyebrowsGo · 06/04/2020 20:59

Love it. My son's uni friend was called Fabian. His other two friends were called Rameses and Ptolemy. They graduated in 2016.

We kinda wished we'd called DS Isambard after DH's engineering hero but we just weren't brave enough.

3xmother · 06/04/2020 20:51

Kasian

OhTheRoses · 06/04/2020 20:49

Magnus

Ontheboardwalk · 06/04/2020 20:29

Sorry OP, reminds me of Bruce Willis saying Fabienne in pulp fiction in that annoying voice

FredaFox · 06/04/2020 20:23

Sounds like a stripper or a character in an erotic novel

HopeandFlory · 06/04/2020 20:21

@MerryDeath I do too, despite the more negative comments Grin I'd love to hear the names you chose if you're prepared to share?

OhTheRoses · 06/04/2020 19:12

It's a socialist organisation so whilst I like the name I certainly wouldn't use it.

Mollymaejonrs · 06/04/2020 19:11

Makes me think of a villain

MrsBobDylan · 06/04/2020 19:10

I love the name, also adore Ettiene.
