"Our" name was stolen this week...

4 days ago some close friends had their baby boy, and used the name that I've been set on for the last 7 months. Gah! They didn't know that was "our" name, so it wasn't malicious at all. Just coincidence. But it is a really uncommon name, so I don't feel we can still use it (we did that with our other child, gave them an uncommon name that had recently been used by other close friends- so it would look downright weird for us to do it again!)

So now I need an amazing boys name. Or for our baby to be a girl... which would also solve the problem!

I find boys names really hard, and only really liked this one, which is why I've known for 7 months, and not swayed from it. So I can't really give you an idea of other names I like, because if I liked any others then I'd have a longer short list..! But my list was literally 1 name! My husband has a few names he likes, but I don't like the ones he suggests, and as he'd readily admit, he's not terribly set on any name, and usually is happy to go with ideas I suggest. He's just not super fussed about names.

So... please help me find another boys name! (I'd tell you the name we just "lost", but it's rather outing given it's pretty uncommon and my friend's baby is probably the only one born this year so far, let alone this week!)

Thanks for any help!

Ultimately, no one owns a name. So logically if you don’t own it, neither do they. If you like it then go ahead and use it; no name is unique and there are guaranteed to be other children with the same name as anything else you choose.

Are yours two children going to be in the same class or even the same school? Do you live in the same street, town, county? What’s to say they (or you) won’t use a nickname or he decides to change his name to JediSkywalker when he’s 14 or something.

We had so much trouble deciding on a name for our oldest that even if my entire family and all my friends had suddenly had babies and given them that name I still would have used it 🤣.

@FawnDrench "ha tired" would be an excellent name if I was going down the "I named you Tuesday because you were born on a Tuesday" line..!

Would love to know what you choose OP. Congratulations and best of luck!

Asher is nice too.

I've scribbled down about 10 from these suggestions now - you're excellent!

Who knew my tastes were "old testament"?! Haven't even opened an old testament (or new...) since RE lessons at school! Maybe it's time to dig out a bible...

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Oh, and to PP who asked, nope, the "perfect lost" name has not yet appeared on this thread. But I could possibly come to love some of these others, so I'm feeling much brighter about it!

If they’re such good friends, why not say ‘what a coincidence. That’s the name we’d chosen-great minds think alike. It would be strange to use the same name now - but we are struggling for names -any suggestions?’

FawnDrench · 05/04/2020 22:37

Only see your subsequent post op. Ezra was the first I thought of, love it. For me it's the nicest of the Biblical names. Eden also lovely.

Miles

In the early 90s we had this as a wild card, but didn't use it in the end. I still like it.

David, Robert and Michael are lovely names which are not that commonly used these days.

I'll just say in passing that both my children have extremely common names (but classical, not fashionable). They hardly ever had anyone of the same name in their class all the way through school.
