"Our" name was stolen this week...

4 days ago some close friends had their baby boy, and used the name that I've been set on for the last 7 months. Gah! They didn't know that was "our" name, so it wasn't malicious at all. Just coincidence. But it is a really uncommon name, so I don't feel we can still use it (we did that with our other child, gave them an uncommon name that had recently been used by other close friends- so it would look downright weird for us to do it again!)

So now I need an amazing boys name. Or for our baby to be a girl... which would also solve the problem!

I find boys names really hard, and only really liked this one, which is why I've known for 7 months, and not swayed from it. So I can't really give you an idea of other names I like, because if I liked any others then I'd have a longer short list..! But my list was literally 1 name! My husband has a few names he likes, but I don't like the ones he suggests, and as he'd readily admit, he's not terribly set on any name, and usually is happy to go with ideas I suggest. He's just not super fussed about names.

So... please help me find another boys name! (I'd tell you the name we just "lost", but it's rather outing given it's pretty uncommon and my friend's baby is probably the only one born this year so far, let alone this week!)

Thanks for any help!

Malachi keeps cropping up, which is funny coz that's my husband, and I do like his name but probably not enough to name our first son after him ;)

Devlesko I'm trying not to think of that as a possibility, as then I'd be angry as well as sad, and it wouldn't change the fact that they've already named their child. But yes, it had crossed my mind... (friends are truly lovely though, and I very much doubt they'd do that, even if they did love the name).

We had Samson on our list. Also Caspar and Quinn

Is it Augustin (Gus for short)

I know three babies called Gus.

Devlesko · 05/04/2020 23:41

If it's that rare your dh probably let it out of the bag and they used it themselves.
Too coincidental.

If I were you I'd still use the name and explain you appreciate it might seem a little odd as its so uncommon but it was your chosen name for 7 months and you honestly don't love anything else as much. It's not like their kid is 5 and you're using the same name. You have been pregnant at the same time so its fairly common to get set on one name that you like.

My son’s name has been mentioned and it’s weirding me out as I have never heard or seen it anywhere else!

I have similarish tastes I think.

My shortlist was:

Asher
Esau
Lucas

and Jessamy (I know, pregnancy hormones for that one, I think...)

Nomoreweeping · 05/04/2020 23:20

Balonz and scoobi on the list now ;)

Logan and Eli I had these picked if my second dc was a boy.

Lucas is my ds name

You could always use the name you had in mine as a middle name but you might not like to given the circumstances.
