When you picked your name, did it just feel right?

Hello all, I'm having a baby boy and I've spent months looking through thousands of boys names. I honestly dislike them all Sad ...I had no idea I'd struggle so much. DP is the same, neither of us could find a single name we even half liked.

Then the name 'Owen' came to me and it instantly felt like 'the' name. Since then I've felt 100% sure that this is the right name for my little boy. DP likes it too so we're both happy.

My question is, did any of you struggle with a name but when you found a name, you instantly knew it was the right one?

Also, do you like Owen?

Also freaky struggled with boys names. I’m due today and we have decided but it still doesn’t feel quite right! 🤨

Owen is a lovely name.

No didn't feel like I'd found 'the one' in terms of baby names. My dh and I weren't struck on any names ahead of the birth and then lo was born and went 3 days without a name and we felt pressured to pick the one was the most likeable so we did. It was weird to begin with, we had to keep saying the name again and again for it to sink in. After a while though we really came to like it and now couldn't image lo being called anything else.

I love Owen - really good choice.

I knew my favourite two names for my DS from the start and there were others I would have been happy with but my partner didn't like any of my liked names and I hated all of his. In the end he was prepared to compromise give in and let me have my two favourites but the other way round from my initial suggestion, which was fine by me because I loved both names the same. And he turned down my generous offer to add one of his preferred names as a third name.

Win-win. Smile

Yes, with all three when we had finally decided it felt absolutely right.

I like Owen :)

Tigger001 · 04/04/2020 21:36

Yes, we love our sons name and when he arrived, he simply, just looked like a "Bob".

I didn't realise until we started our groups it was quite popular, I hadn't heard it used for decades, so a bit disappointed but we still adore it.

I employed and Eoin and it was the first time I heard it @MikeUniformMike

Yes, I think Owen is ok.

Owen is a great name Smile

We didn’t find out the sex but we’d convinced ourselves we were having a boy (slight abnormality picked up on a scan that’s much more common in boys) and picked names to choose from once he’d arrived - out came a girl!

We’d picked a name before my epidural had worn off because it just is her. I don’t think it’s a name that would have made any short lists if I’d had a girls one but it suits her so perfectly. Even now I get the odd comment that it’s a really good fit for her.

Yes, with both DC. Loved the names, still do.
They have quite classic names, very popular for their age group but the names haven't dated.

Owen is fine. No spelling or pronunciation issues, unless you are in Ireland - there it would get mixed up with Eoin, which isn't related.
Owen is a version of Owain but Owain rhymes with wine... mmm. wine...

I think it's really important to meet your baby first and see what suits him. DS was nameless for a week before we decided, because we wanted to get it right. It wasn't a name that was in our top 3 that we plumped for, but it just popped up and there it was.

Yes, I like Owen.

No, not really. It took us weeks to name each of our children; the second was only actually named in the registry office. I really like both of their names but it took us ages to settle on the one that we both liked. Eldest has a fairly unique name - other people do have that name but we’ve not met one yet and he’s nearly 6. It’s very much his name, and everyone at school knows who he is because of it. Youngest has a very popular name, which I still love, but it’s never going to be like eldest’s name, he will always have to have his surname as an identifier or be ‘eldest’s brother’

Owen is a lovely name.

With dc1, he got named the name we chosen.

When dc2 was born, he didn’t suit his chosen name, so got named something else (swopped first and middle names around).

Owen is a great name.

Kind of. With my first it was definitely his name. With my second we disagreed a lot more. We both like her name but sometimes I find it weird that it is her name still and she’s almost a year oops. It’s not that I regret it, because I don’t, but I’m weirdly still fixated on names and I feel like there was a name out there that didn’t occur to me. I think what I also find hard is that the nickname is evolving and there are sort of two routes to go down and I don’t know which one she’ll end up being.

We struggled with our baby's name for months. Couldn't find anything we liked and eventually got a list together and whittled it down. One name seemed to grow on us over time but we weren't 100% on it. Took us over a week after she was born to settle on it permanently.
Our families both hate it but friends etc love it. It does suit her but took us a while to confirm that it was the right name for her.

Owen is a nice name, if you're both happy with it I'd use it but be wary of confirming the name with family in case you change your mind later.
