Diana? Too old fashioned?

DD is due mid August. Me and DP love the name Diana but DP's parents think it sounds top old fashioned. Just want to scope it out a little and see how common that opinion is
Thanks

Don't shorten it to Ana.
You could shorten it to Dinah in speech, or to Dee or even Dan.
Or make up a nn like Squidge or something.

I love Diana, but am not keen on the nickname Di. I'm not sure how inevitable the nickname would be, but I wouldn't risk it. Diana has been on an upward trajectory in popularity, so I don't think it will be seen as too old fashioned for long.

Yes I know there’s no rule and I wanted to use “Diana” as it’s a much loved relative’s name but all the Diana’s I know (including her) had the name shortened to Di(e) whether they like it or not. Don’t regret not using it but I do like the full name @CheriLittlebottom

CheriLittlebottom · 03/04/2020 16:07

So shorten it to Ana? Or don't shorten it at all - you don't have to!

Whatsyourflava · 03/04/2020 16:05

I really like it but hate the nickname Di(e). As a result whole name just wreaks of death especially given association to Diana plus the shortening Die

💀

I like the actual name, the princess link would put me off but I don't think it is old fashioned,

MikeUniformMike · 03/04/2020 16:00

Grace was associated with Grace Kelly for a long time. Would Princess Di mean much to someone born this year?

It's a beautiful name.

SilverOtter · 03/04/2020 15:54

I love itSmile

CheriLittlebottom · 03/04/2020 15:52

I like it. Due a comeback. There's Princess Di obviously but to kids their reference will more likely be wonder woman.

SnowdropFox · 03/04/2020 15:52

I love it too. Love the meaning and also being someone who loves comic book movies and fantasy in general, its Wonder Womans name and that of a Roman Goddess. If we have a DD2 it would be a contender.

One of my favourite names. Unfortunately, DH vetoed it so I'll never have a little Diana 😪

TankGirl97 · 03/04/2020 15:47

Absolutely love it, great meaning too. I really pushed for it when choosing a name for dd but dh wasn't convinced. Hope you do use it.

BogRollQueen · 03/04/2020 15:45

It’s a beautiful name and due a comeback.

The Princess association is strong, though, obviously.
