Thoughts on this name guys? It is Cornish for James Star

To me, it feels no different to calling a baby Chloe, if you're not French, Niamh, if you're not Irish or Oscar if you aren't Scandinavian. I'm sure there's plenty more examples I could use, given the popularity of french and Scandinavian names that are booming now. The fact that it's Cornish definitely doesn't hold me back.

Jago is cornish for Jacob and James. Jago is currently trendy because many four letter names ending in o are.

Jacob could be Jago on a day-to-day basis, or be Jake or Jay, so I'd say it isn't a boring name.

ByAppointmentTo · 03/04/2020 08:31

Not keen sorry. Makes me think of Iago in Othello.

BuffaloCauliflower · 03/04/2020 08:21

@MikeUniformMike I didn’t say the people were boring, just the name

MikeUniformMike · 03/04/2020 08:18

@BuffaloCauliflower, only to you. Safe, maybe, and it's been around quite a while. I know some terrific Jacobs, who are far from boring.

AlliKaneSon · 03/04/2020 04:01

I love it!

VenusClapTrap · 02/04/2020 23:32

I like it but agree with others you need to be Cornish. Love Rudy.

BuffaloCauliflower · 02/04/2020 23:09

@MikeUniformMike Jacob is crashingly boring

BuffaloCauliflower · 02/04/2020 23:08

Rudy is awful

BuffaloCauliflower · 02/04/2020 23:08

Love Jago, one of my faves and on my list, but DH next keen. We’ve gone for a different short name ending in o Smile

Mulanlin · 02/04/2020 23:07

Jago not Rudy!!!

Mulanlin · 02/04/2020 23:06

Gorgeous. So unique and cool

Bezalelle · 02/04/2020 22:42

I feel I ought to like Jags but it somehow sounds wrong.

Rudy is just awful! When I was growing up, the "rudies" were what we called sex. Far too close to the word "rude"

123Dancewithme · 02/04/2020 21:40

I really like it. I know a little Jago.

CaffiSaliMali · 02/04/2020 20:35

I like it. I also like Iago and James. Don't like Jacob.

I think Jago is nicer than Rudy. I think people will assume you're Cornish though so worth bearing in mind.

user1493494961 · 02/04/2020 19:46

I like Jago, not keen on Rudy.

PlantPotting · 02/04/2020 17:57

I think your husband might get used to it! It’s such a great name

PlantPotting · 02/04/2020 17:57

Absolutely LOVE Rudi/Rudy @catlifeisthelifeforme

Zagazooo · 02/04/2020 17:08

Really love it! It was on our list but having a girl this time.

tegucigalpa13 · 02/04/2020 16:47

I think it only works if you are posh and cornish.

eyeblob · 02/04/2020 16:46

Love it (I live in Cornwall and know a few)

soupforbrains · 02/04/2020 16:44

My cousin has a Jago. I like it as a name and her husband is Cornish.

However you need to be prepared for people to mispronounce it constantly. Yah-go, Yay-go and eeah-go are all said before people land on Jay-go as its supposed to be.

Cbeebiesrehab · 02/04/2020 16:42

Love it and would use it if I had another boy.

CalmerViolet · 02/04/2020 16:15

I’ve always loved Jago.
Didn’t know til now that it is Cornish. There are some great Cornish names.
Always assumed the J is pronounced.

MikeUniformMike · 02/04/2020 15:51

A bit trendy, sorry. Jacob is better.
