What do people think of this? I have always loved the name but as always find myself playing devil's advocate when a decision is required...!

My criteria are in no particular order:

Scottish
Doesn't end in "S" or "sh"
Doesn't sound like a surname
Not too popular (I live abroad so Rory not common here)

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

It just made me think of the vet on cbeebies 😂 but he is a nice chap if that helps! I like it though 😊

badg3r · 01/04/2020 22:56

@Cheesy haha half right I guess!

One of the nicest, kindest, most fabulous people that I have ever know had that name, but spelt Rhori Star

Cheesypea · 01/04/2020 22:52

Sounds posh and Scottish.

badg3r · 01/04/2020 22:48

@Verily yes I agree it being very popular in the uk did put me off! But I can't see us moving back in the next 10 years at least. I guess it do worry it will date a bit being so common now, I already feel like I know so many babies called Finley, even though I really like the name it already feels a bit dated since they are all 5-10 years old now.

@Whatsyour yes due in September, I already used my "best" names on my first kids but DH vetoed Rory last times and has now had a change of heart!

Yes the fact that it is very common now bothered me quite a bit, mainly because the surname is a really common one too so I don't want them to one of 300 Joe Bloggs when they are older. But where we are now there have been not
More than 2 babies called Rory in the last ten years, so definitely not common here, and I don't know any friends or family with the name.

Love it. Got one ☺️

Verily1 · 01/04/2020 22:23

It’s so common! Now in the top 10 boys names.

Robert
Callum
Malcolm
Andrew/Drew
Bruce
Clyde
Finlay
Lachlan
Skyler

TenThousandSpoons · 01/04/2020 22:18

I like the name. Sweet on a boy and nice on a man too.

The only drawback I can think of is a lot of children have trouble pronouncing r for quite a while.

mintich · 01/04/2020 22:16

I also have a Rory and people seem to love his name!

Momniscient · 01/04/2020 22:14

Depends how much you love Gilmore Girls, I suppose Grin

Imonlymoominafterall · 01/04/2020 22:12

Is your surname Lyons?

Whatsyourflava · 01/04/2020 22:11

Are you expecting @badg3r ? Is it a boy do you know?

DramaAlpaca · 01/04/2020 22:04

Love love love it.

QforCucumber · 01/04/2020 22:02

I have one, he's fab :) we'd actually veto'd the name while I was pregnant then when he was born I just decided (as one gets to after 2 days of labour) that I liked it and it was his name. Its perfect.

Zazia · 01/04/2020 21:59

Love it too

badg3r · 01/04/2020 21:57

Thanks everyone... seems pretty unanimous so far!

uncomfortablydumb53 · 01/04/2020 21:55

Love it

LostInTheColonies · 01/04/2020 21:53

DD would have been Rory or Euan. Love love love both names.

If I'd been particularly brave I'd have gone with Ruaridh and possibly consigned the child to a lifetime of spelling out their very excellent name. Grin

Sandsnake · 01/04/2020 20:58

Love! DD would have been a Rory if she’d been a boy.

Panicmode1 · 01/04/2020 20:57

And he is very roary 😂

Panicmode1 · 01/04/2020 20:57

Love it (I have one!)

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 01/04/2020 20:54

Carolwithane · 01/04/2020 20:54

lavalamp08 · 01/04/2020 20:52
