Rory?

What do people think of this? I have always loved the name but as always find myself playing devil's advocate when a decision is required...!

My criteria are in no particular order:

Scottish
Doesn't end in "S" or "sh"
Doesn't sound like a surname
Not too popular (I live abroad so Rory not common here)

Love .. was my choice but had girl instead!

Mlou32 · 05/04/2020 14:29

I like it but I prefer the Ruaridh spelling.

missmouse101 · 05/04/2020 14:12

I can't bear it. The awful 'roar' sound puts me right off.

badg3r · 05/04/2020 14:06

@PlantPotting yes I have had my eye on it for a while, it was not even allowed on the shortlist last time though so don't want to miss my last chance!!

@midsomermurdress I love Ewan too but can't use it unfortunately. I do really like Angus too, also of that ilk.

Aurora nickname Rory for a girl x

YourStarlessEyes · 05/04/2020 10:32

Was going to add, before we knew she was a she!

YourStarlessEyes · 05/04/2020 10:32

I love it, it was on my list for my second DD.

LadyEloise · 05/04/2020 10:31

Love it

LesLavandes · 03/04/2020 21:35

I am Irish. I have a Ruairí. I love it.

midsomermurderess · 03/04/2020 21:19

But, Jane, Rory is not a girl's name. The one from the tv show is a shortening of something else.

midsomermurderess · 03/04/2020 21:17

Lovely name. What about Euan as an alternative?

PlantPotting · 02/04/2020 20:25

Interesting to hear you’ve already used your “best names” OP
But sounds like you’ve had your heart set on Rory for a long time

JanewaysBun · 02/04/2020 14:59

Love it but for a girl

Alwaysundecided · 02/04/2020 14:58

I have one and I love it. I struggled to find another name I loved as much for DS2. It ticks all the boxes, suits a baby a teenager and a man and I think it sounds friendly too.

sashh · 02/04/2020 04:10

I know two, one mid 20s, the other 1.5 years. I like it, unusual without being 'out there'

paperandfireworks · 02/04/2020 03:32

Love it.

Aber9 · 02/04/2020 02:15

Love it

Love it !!

@Ginandplatonic yes I was a bit worried about difficulty with pronunciation, but I tested it on my other kids today and at least they can both say it...!

I love Rory as a name. Two friends (who don’t know each other) have Rory’s. One is Scottish, the other isn’t.

MorbidMuch · 01/04/2020 23:04

I love it! I haven't come across too many in recent years down my way. Probably one per every other year group.

Ginandplatonic · 01/04/2020 23:04

Love it. Wanted it for 4th DS but DH vetoed.

Only thing I would say is that DS turned out to have enormous difficulty saying R (along with many other sounds) so it’s just as well we didn’t go with Rory - would have been a nightmare for him.

We now have a dog called Rory instead and I still love it!

Dollywilde · 01/04/2020 23:00

I love it but it’s my brother in laws name so could use it sadly.

SallyWD · 01/04/2020 22:58

Love it! Great name for a boy and a man. Sounds friendly to me.
