Lilah or Seraphina?

Peridotty · 31/03/2020 22:29

I am going to have my baby girl in 2 months time but husband and I can't decide on a name! Went through top 500 names but husband did not like any of them.
We came up with Seraphina or Lilah as potential candidates. Our surname is Shay. So it's Seraphina Shay or Lilah Shay.

What do you guys prefer? We want something unique but not weird and nothing too popular!! Thank you

Seraphina sounds beautiful with your surname! I would love to have that name

diddlediddle · 01/04/2020 21:21

Iona is the best by far, much classier than the other two options, and you are lucky that it goes well with your surname!

Go for it! So not concern yourself with why she'll do if she gets married to someone with a noun surname - goodness, that's unlikely and even if she does who says she'll what to change her name? Girl power:)

Now we are going 360 back to our original Iona!

Shuna is pretty but not with your surname. I like a lot of the scottish names

Some of the island names are nice but Iona is lovely. Much quicker for her to learn to write than Seraphina. Smile

Ben bloke off the telly Fogle has an Iona.

@MikeUniformMike
Our surname is Shay so Iona Shay.
We liked Iona as I was born in Scotland. We couldn’t find any other Scottish names we liked. Isla was too popular !

Iona was our front runner until I read that some Ionas get teased at school because it sounds like ‘I own a...’ and we thought ‘what if she marries a Mr Carr’.

Iona is in a different league. Only caveat - does it go with your surname?

Don't use it if your surname is a noun, or could be changed into a noun.

Iona Butcher('s Shop)
Iona Field etc.

Iona rather than lilah

VenusClapTrap · 01/04/2020 18:40

Iona

Peridotty · 01/04/2020 18:11

After reading through all the replies seems like there are more votes for Lilah. We think Lilah is the more useable name too.
Husband likes the spelling Lyla but I prefer Lilah. He thinks people will say Lil- ah, but I am not convinced!

Iona. Not Seraphina.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 01/04/2020 17:37

I am going to vote for Seraphina as I just love it.

I do like Lilah and Iona too but Seraphina is my favourite.

Whatsyourflava · 01/04/2020 16:07

Love lilah
How about Delilah ?

MikeUniformMike · 01/04/2020 16:03

Don't like either of them sorry.
Seraphina is a bit too full on, and Lilah is yet another short name with not many consonants that aren't L or V.

Saffzy · 01/04/2020 15:05

Both beautiful names, love the way Lilah is spelt but you and her may have to spend all your time correcting the spelling when people spell it the other way.

Minkies13 · 01/04/2020 15:04

I love Seraphina!! My husband would never have let me though

Jj2431 · 01/04/2020 15:02

Lilah

Peachbubble · 01/04/2020 06:32

Lilah.

Graymare · 01/04/2020 04:49

Gah! Sorry, Seraphina.

Graymare · 01/04/2020 04:48

Iona is beautiful.
Of your two top choices, Seraphim's.

LifeIsFunJustBeHappy · 01/04/2020 04:02

They are both beautiful names. Personally both of them will go with your last name.

richele4 · 01/04/2020 01:20

Definitely Lilah

camelsandcaramel · 01/04/2020 01:06

I adore the name Iona!
