Lily, Edie or Sophie

Hi, we have a baby girl due in a few weeks and having thought we’d landed on a name have now gone off it so coming here hoping for some thoughts on Sophie, Edie or Lily. Any preferences? I know Sophie and Lily are both are popular which may put off a lot of people here but we really like them and are struggling to think of any others we like. We like Edie but think it may need a fuller formal name like Edith which we’re less keen on.

Thank you!

Lily is lovely. I’m not keen on the other too, Edie is a bit trendy for me and Sophie is boring - sorry!

iklboo mine too, I love that song.

iklboo · 30/03/2020 16:41

Edie - one of my favourite Cult songs.

CorianderLord · 30/03/2020 16:31

Find it hard to believe that Sophie has been dropping off year on year - a variation has been the most popular name across about three continents for years. There are five on my team at work!

BananaPlant · 30/03/2020 16:04

Edie it’s much less popular and quite cool I think. Every other girl is Lily or Sophie.

Could Elodie be shortened to Edie? It's pretty and uncommon. I agree it's nice to have a longer name on the birth certificate so your child has more options

AntiHop · 29/03/2020 21:19

Sophie is more timeless.

DramaAlpaca · 29/03/2020 21:18

Just use Edie without a longer form if you like it.

I like Sophie and Lily too.

MikeUniformMike · 29/03/2020 16:38

Soph, Lil or Ede?

Sophie.

andadietcoke · 29/03/2020 16:30

I have a Sophie. She's the only one in her class (Y2), and I think there's only a couple more in the school.

FeedMeSantiago · 29/03/2020 16:29

Sophie
Lily
Edie

In that order. Sophie is popular, but a timeless classic - I know Sophies of all ages.

Lily is also lovely, but a bit more prone to surges and drops in popularity. It feels a bit Harry Potter to me.

I'm not a fan of Edie, I keep wanting to pronounce it as Eddie.

bridgetreilly · 29/03/2020 15:18

I like Edie, though I would probably use Edith, which I also like.

cocomelon23 · 29/03/2020 12:25

There are so many of all of those names round here at the minute. If that doesnt bother you then I personally like Sophie the best.

AdamantEve · 29/03/2020 12:23

I like Edie

Eleanorrrelephant · 29/03/2020 12:23

Lily is beautiful
Edie reminds me of ED...as in erectile dysfunction

daisypond · 29/03/2020 12:22

Either Sophie or Lily. Edie is too bland and nicknamey. If short for something, it would be better. Edwina?

Neonyellow · 29/03/2020 12:19

Sophie and Edie are lovely

ImNotWhoYouThinkIam · 29/03/2020 12:18

My niece is called Edie and it's a beautiful name. (And it's a name in it's own right isn't it? So no need to be short for anything)

I also love Lily and Sophie is pretty but my least favourite of the 3.

sibbys · 29/03/2020 12:15

Edie is lovely

JollyGiraffe12 · 29/03/2020 11:27

Sophie

123Dancewithme · 29/03/2020 10:49

Edie if it’s short for Edith. Otherwise Sophie.

SallyWD · 29/03/2020 09:20

Ive always loved Lily. I know it's popular but I still like it. I only like Edie if it's a nickname for Edith (which is lovely). Hope I don't offend anyone but I've always found Sophie a little dull/wet.

REdReDRE · 29/03/2020 09:18

I like Sophie

WindowGazer2 · 29/03/2020 09:12

Edie. It's lovely
