Rosemary - dated or refreshing?!

I like it as long as I think of the herb and not of somebody in their 60s! What do you think?

Other options are:
Naomi
Fern
Flora
Freya
Elizabeth
Miranda
Rose
Isolde
Iris
Thanks!

Rosie sounds very dated to me. There is one in the school I work in now but there used to be one in practically every class about ten years ago.

Astronica · 10/03/2020 22:41

Just to add, I like (and prefer) some others on your list: Flora, Isolde and Iris.

Astronica · 10/03/2020 22:40

Dated or refreshing? - a bit of both. Certainly I know a lot of older women called Rosemary and it does seem dated, but it also could work for a little one, and I particularly like Rose and Rosie for shortforms.

RoseMartha · 10/03/2020 22:37

I like it.

Also i like from your list

Miranda
Rose
Flora
Elizabeth

Jossina · 10/03/2020 22:29

I like it. A plus is she can decide if she wants to be called Rose or Mary :)

FamilyOfAliens · 10/03/2020 22:27

Always think of Rose West when I hear the name

Despite the fact she is known as Rose? How odd.

BackforGood · 10/03/2020 22:27

Refreshing.
To me it is an 'old lady name', so it is time for a come back with all the Maisies, Iris, Isobels, Mauds, Ivys, etc etc.
Why I like Rosemary better is that it gives nice options for shorter names at different times, when she wants to be known as Rose, Rosie (or Mary, I suppose)

MrsP2015 · 10/03/2020 22:25

I like it

DramaAlpaca · 10/03/2020 22:25

I really like Rosemary. I like the rest of your list, too.

FamilyOfAliens · 10/03/2020 22:23

DD is a Rosemary. It’s my favourite girls‘ name ever and she loves it, though as a young adult she now goes by Rose (never Rosie!).

midlifecrash · 10/03/2020 22:20

But all the Rosemarys I have known have been called Rosie, which I really like

JollyGiraffe12 · 10/03/2020 22:16

I really want to love Rosemary - I love both Rose and Mary but I just find Rosemary off putting and yes a bit dated. From your list - I like Rose, Elizabeth and Miranda.

PondLover · 10/03/2020 22:14

I’m afraid I can’t think of the herb. Your others are far nicer, with the exception of Fern, which makes me think of cheap toiletry gift-sets in old-fashioned chemists.

Isolde for preference.
