What do you think of the name Floran for a boy?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
haverhill · 09/03/2020 17:36

Prince Florian was a bounder.

DidoLamenting · 09/03/2020 17:35

The OP says Floran not Florin

Floran is not a name of anything- whether a boy or a coin. Possibly she heard it somewhere. To anyone over 60 whether it is spelled Floran or Florin (the sound is the same) it is a 2s piece.

LynetteScavo · 09/03/2020 17:03

What @Teabunny said.

Teabunny · 09/03/2020 16:25

I picture Floran or Florian as an 18th Century gender fluid dandy. Sorry, not helpful.

IntermittentParps · 09/03/2020 16:22

The OP says Floran not Florin.

DidoLamenting · 09/03/2020 16:22

It's not a name. Florian is a name.

A florin was a pre-decimalisation coin worth 2 shillings (20p)

IntermittentParps · 09/03/2020 16:20

If you mean Florian, I love it. I don't know Floran as a name though.

EngagedAgain · 09/03/2020 16:20

Florian maybe, but definitely not Floran.

Onthetrain75 · 09/03/2020 16:20

Florian? Name of our local ballet school. Don’t like it as a boy’s name. Reminds me of that disinfectant people on mn always rave about.

AllesAusLiebe · 09/03/2020 16:18

@EineReiseDurchDieZeit yes, it is. :-) I had a book when I was a kid about a boy named Florian.

I quite like the name, but I don't think it's very fashionable nowadays.

I'm also not sure that it would fit well with English pronunciation. There would be a slightly different inflection that would sound strange.

Divebar · 09/03/2020 16:16

There’s a famous dancer called Florian Pohl. (He’s terribly terribly ugly as you can see Wink.) I would put the name in the same category as Fabian... which I also quite like but think that if you’re not very confident or very bohemian it might be quite tricky growing up.

Floran (boy name).. what do you think?
EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 09/03/2020 16:07

And yes, it was Florian not Floran assuming typo

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 09/03/2020 16:06

It's a popular name in Germany isn't it?

I went to uni with one, he was British with a German father.

I have forgotten the names of many people I knew but wasn't close to at uni, but not him as his name stood out

Clangus00 · 09/03/2020 16:03

Is it not Florian?

YourVagesty · 09/03/2020 15:58

If you mean Florian that is

YourVagesty · 09/03/2020 15:57

I think it's lovely. It's always been one of my favourites Smile

formerbabe · 09/03/2020 15:54

Pretentious

I'd picture an adult with that name to be an absolute drip too.

FamilyOfAliens · 09/03/2020 15:51

It’s not a name.

As pp say, you may mean Florian, which is a name.

Saharafordessert · 09/03/2020 15:49

Definitely no....it’s very feminine

WhateverHappenedToBathPearls · 09/03/2020 15:42

I've not come across it before, only Florian (which I'm not a huge fan of tbh)

CodenameVillanelle · 09/03/2020 15:34

No

MikeUniformMike · 09/03/2020 15:34

awful

EssentialHummus · 09/03/2020 15:32

Too feminine for a boy's name I'd say (both Floran and Florian).

peachescariad · 09/03/2020 15:28

Sounds like a toddler trying to say 'foreign'....

8by8 · 09/03/2020 15:25

I’ve heard florian before, but not floran. It’s a bit flowery/girly for a boy and might lead to some teasing?
