Thoughts on Aerith?

So far it's the only name me and my husband have both liked for our baby girl.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
LesLavandes · 07/03/2020 23:31

Nice name. Your child will have to put up with incorrect spelling forever. I have a boy with a foreign name. I know...

LargeGinOnTap · 07/03/2020 23:29

Is it like Erin with a Th end? It's ok but where I'm from R is pronounced quite harshly so wouldn't sound as nice somehow

DramaAlpaca · 07/03/2020 23:27

LizzieAnt I always say Erin with a short 'e', I've never heard it differently, always EH-rin. It's interesting the different pronunciations you come across on here.

LizzieAnt · 07/03/2020 23:00

@DramaAlpaca
"Just as Aerin is AIR-in, so different to Erin"

I thought Erin was pronounced Air-in too?

Figgygal · 07/03/2020 22:18

They’ll spend their life telling everyone how to spell it and say it
I wouldn’t

TressiliansStone · 07/03/2020 22:17
Grin

At least Twin D would get Doc.

DoctorBambino · 07/03/2020 22:15

I much prefer Aeris and will be using that as a middle name if I can ever get pregnant... and it happens to be a girl

MaryHerbert · 07/03/2020 22:05

Twins next, known by their second initials, A & D.

Twin A would be called Arse by his schoolfriends!

needadvicethankyouplease · 07/03/2020 22:05

Erith in Kent is what it made me think of.

DramaAlpaca · 07/03/2020 22:02

I don't think it's pronounced like Erith. The 'a' isn't silent. The 'ae' sound is longer, making it more like AIR-ith. Just as Aerin is AIR-in, so different to Erin.

Pronounced that way, I think Aerith is lovely.

Monsterjam · 07/03/2020 21:58

People will think she was conceived in Erith, and she will spend her life having to spell her name to people

Hereforthenamethreads · 07/03/2020 21:54

I don't like that.

Slomi · 07/03/2020 21:53

I would definitely assume you were a massive Final Fantasy fan. Not necessarily a bad thing!

I seem to remember some characters with actual real life names if you wanted a less obvious nod to the series (Celes, Beatrix, Rosa etc).

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 07/03/2020 21:53

What if the child isn't like a whimsical fantastical being?
Nobody will know a) how to spell it b) how to pronounce it.
You'll get Airy/Eery/Fairy/Hairy

bridgetreilly · 07/03/2020 21:50

Erith. Of which Linda Smith used to say it wasn't so much twinned with Dartford as in a suicide pact with it. So, that's a no from me.

PancakesNWaffles · 07/03/2020 21:50

Erith is a dump. No.

TressiliansStone · 07/03/2020 21:49

We're thinking along the same lines, MaryHerbert. Grin

Twins next, known by their second initials, A & D.

Charlton for a boy, of course.

MaryHerbert · 07/03/2020 21:37

Next child Belvedere?
Then Abby, would you think?

Then Plum? If Gwyneth Paltrow can call her child Apple....

Dyra · 07/03/2020 21:35

I was always more of a fan of Tifa. Wink

IMO Aerith is lovely, and with the FFVII remake coming very soon, more and more people will recognise the name.

Luckily there aren't many Sephiroths around as well.

TressiliansStone · 07/03/2020 21:20

Next child Belvedere?

Then Abby, would you think?

GetTheSprinkles · 07/03/2020 21:15

Not a fan at all. Reminds me of the Aero chocolate bar.
What about Erin?

GreyishDays · 07/03/2020 21:03

What about Eris instead?

Whatsyourflava · 07/03/2020 21:03

I think it’s going to be a really annoying name for her to have, I’m sorry

How about Edith or something people can spell? I also am sometimes questioned on the spelling of my name (even though it’s very basic) but it’s very easy to explain quickly how to spell out my name
Aerith is going to be much more tricky

“It’s Aerith so..A”

“A?? Did you say E?”

“No A then E”

I dunno but I wouldn’t like it

Wetcarparkrain · 07/03/2020 21:01

Love it!

MetalMidget · 07/03/2020 21:01

Aerith's a lovely name, just keep her away from long haired dudes with massive swords.
