Friso (name) for a boy.. what do you think?

What do you think of the name Friso for a boy? It’s a Dutch name, we are from the Netherlands and we are living now in America (for at least a few years). What is your association if you hear the name? Do you think you could pronounce the name easily? The other name we consider is Magnus.. just because it’s easier for American people. Thanks for your advice.

It reminds me of Josef fritzil who kept his daughter locked up.

Jossina · 06/03/2020 20:19

It reminds me of Frisco, but I don't mind it. Just make sure he's a safe skier.

user1493494961 · 06/03/2020 19:47

Go with Magnus, it's much nicer.

PeraltasWife · 06/03/2020 14:10

It's not great. Maybe a longer name starting with F that you could use it as a nickname for?

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 06/03/2020 14:05

Please name your son something that wont mean he is teased at school

beckywiththeshithair39 · 06/03/2020 14:04

Sounds like a poncy pizza

Mallory29 · 06/03/2020 14:01

I like both. Magnus is more recognisable in English but Friso is interesting and simple enough to say and spell. And it’s a name from your country, go for it if it’s your favourite.

yikesanotherbooboo · 06/03/2020 13:52

I think both are fine; I can't see any justifiable negative associations. Go for it.

Windyatthebeach · 06/03/2020 13:51

Looks like a nn for Fray Bentos!!

123Dancewithme · 06/03/2020 13:50

I quite like it. Magnus is great too.

DropYourSword · 06/03/2020 13:46

Wouldn’t be sure how to pronounce it. Magnus is cute!

diddlediddle · 06/03/2020 13:44

Nothing wrong with Friso, just that most U.K. ppl won't be familiar with it. If you met a baby called it you wouldn't think twice after going hmm that's unusual.

I do prefer Magnus though!

Clangus00 · 06/03/2020 12:35

Love it!
But I just think of Johan-Friso.
Americans won’t bat their eyelids at it and it’s nicer than Magnus.

TheReluctantCountess · 06/03/2020 12:05

Friso - no.

WildCherryBlossom · 06/03/2020 12:04

It's ok, but I prefer Magnus. I really love Magnus!

Knittedfairies · 06/03/2020 12:02

If you are from the Netherlands and want to use a Dutch name, then use it; Americans will just have to get used to it.

peachescariad · 06/03/2020 11:59

One sounds like a lettuce the other like an ice-cream

Whatsyourflava · 06/03/2020 11:55

Nice

Whatsyourflava · 06/03/2020 11:55

Magnus is jice

I don't like the name much in Dutch and I don't think it works well in English. You will be forever correcting it to Free-so like in Frisian, not Fry-so

Thisismytimetoshine · 06/03/2020 11:39

Oh, it’s really awful Shock.

ChristineSmith74 · 06/03/2020 11:37

Reminds me of the word "frisk", not going to lie to you

ElektraPlektra · 06/03/2020 11:36

Not keen on Magnus, it sounds too grand.
Friso will work fine.

strawberrylipgloss · 06/03/2020 11:35

Is it pronounced Free-so?
I think that the crisp association is because of the American brand FritoLay but that's not a problem in the UK.
I think it's fine as a name :)
