Girls names to go with Rae

Dav87 · 05/03/2020 13:50

Hi!
We are giving our baby girl the middle name Rae, named after my sister 😊 Here are the names we have narrowed down to go with it:

Poppy
Evie
Lily
Safia

What’s everyone’s thoughts? Are there any other names you like that go nicely with Rae?

Thanks! x

My friend has a Darcey Rae.

Love the name Rae - We are going to call DD2 Rachel so we can use the nn Rae.

Not sure what to suggest as a 1st name but it goes with most names so I'm sure you'll find something niceSmile

Agree with PP please don’t worry about the popularity of a middle name. The name has a lot of significance to you and you’d feel really dissapointed if you picked a more unusual name only to find out that name suddenly booms in popularity anyway and has no meaning to you

Love all your choices except for Safia as it sounds made up and almost identical to loads of more popular names that it will constantly get misheard and misspelt. I’d pick Lily or Poppy - so lovely

Here are some other suggestions for first names though:

Willa
Imogen
Sadie
Edith / Edie
Margaret /Maggie/Peggy
Clementine/ Clemmie
Roxanne/Roxanna/Rosanne
Pearl
Delilah
Ottilie /Ottie
Cora
Eliza
River
Winter
Jemima
Holly
Cleo
Mabel
Marnie

DD has an Ella with Rae as a mn.

Is it a true middle name, eg just for forms etc? Because if it is you'll really never say it so just choose names you like (and make sure the initials are ok!). However if you're treating it more like a hyphenated name then it matters more.

Don't worry about the popularity of a middle name if you love it. I think using your sister's name is really lovely regardless of popularity, much nicer than choosing a random cute short name for the sake of it.

I don't really like any of the 'ae' names at all, but Rae does go with most things. It's hard to think of a name that it wouldn't work well with really. Your choices all sound nice, and I like the PP's suggestion of Arden. Eden could also be nice.

I think you're looking at it the wrong way round - mostly, people don't even know someone's middle name. Pick the first name you love - even if it doesn't 'fit' with Rae - that's the least important criterion.

She'll be X and nobody will even know what her middle name is, mostly.

Of your suggestions, I like Poppy the most. Lily and Evie are just so popular and common, and I don't like Safia - just a bit made uppy.

I really love Rae as a first name. It’s cool and strong. Would you not fancy that at all?

Emma Rae. Lena Rae. Voodoo Rae Wink

My son actually has an old man's name as his is Ray. I didn't like it at first but can't think of him as anything else now and he has no one else at school with the same name.

I like Lilly Rae.

reginafelangee · 05/03/2020 17:33

I would just pick a first name you really like.

No one ever knows middle names. It doesn't really matter whether it goes or not.

From your list I prefer Lily.

*loses, not learns. Ffs autocorrect!

Cornelia
Felicity
Amber
Kitty
Bonnie
Aster
Viola
Emma
Robyn

I think a more cutesy name like Poppy or Evie makes Rae sounds more like a filler. If it's a stronger first name it learns that, somehow.

Dav87 · 05/03/2020 16:18

I had no idea it was so popular!
It’s just my sister’s name, she was born in 1985 haha - only when I’ve started looking into baby names I’ve realised how common it is... I don’t know anyone else called it! 😐 Ha, typical!

Some really lovely suggestions, thank you. It won’t be hyphened with the first name, a stand-alone middle name.

Lots to think about... and then to convince DH! 😊 x
