Opinions; Partner thinks it's pretentious. I just like Greek names and love the stories surrounding him.

Booboostwo I have! It firmly cemented my opinion.

Oblomov20 · 03/03/2020 18:37

Please don't. It means Achilles heel, ie your weak spot.

Booboostwo · 03/03/2020 18:37

EoinMcLovesCakeajumper have you read The Silence of the Girls? I think you’re going to love it.

EoinMcLovesCakeJumper · 03/03/2020 18:29

Sulked in a tent for years because Agamemnon stole his slave girl, then went apeshit and desecrated the dead body of his enemy. I could never stand him in the Iliad, the petulant twat.

Namechangexyz1 · 02/03/2020 19:27

I knew one but was actually Greek.

If you're not then I really wouldn't

MiniMum97 · 02/03/2020 01:03

Just makes me think or tendons. I have Achilles tendinopathy so not that associations for me! Plus it's associated generally with being a weak spot.

DeeCeeCherry · 02/03/2020 00:43

Especially if you/others are going to pronounce it as Akileeez

DeeCeeCherry · 02/03/2020 00:38

I can just imagine the 'weak' jokes throughout schooldays & he'll probably change his name once he's old enough

HavenDilemma · 02/03/2020 00:37

Just don't give him Neal as a middle name

CherryPavlova · 02/03/2020 00:00

My daughter has a friend from school called Achilles - Achi for short . His surname is ‘of Greece’ though.

clary · 01/03/2020 23:52

😂😂

BeroccaFiend · 01/03/2020 23:36

They could start with ‘Baby-dipping skills.’

BeroccaFiend · 01/03/2020 23:36

Yes, @clary. Clearly we would be much better sea nymphs and mothers to quasi-invulnerable heroes. Shall we send in CVs? Grin

clary · 01/03/2020 20:32

@BeroccaFiend I always wonder why she didn't just dip him in entirely, getting her own hand wet in the process, that would have sorted it 😄

Pippilangstrumpfi · 01/03/2020 20:26

To hector means to bully! Not a great meaning.

EstebanTheMagnificent · 01/03/2020 20:13

Have you read the Iliad? Achilles is awful. Sulky prick.

Hector is much better and a completely brilliant name!

DGRossetti · 01/03/2020 15:32

Saw this thread pop up in Active ... my first thought was:

When the mighty arms of Atlas hold the heavens from the Earth ...

Troels · 01/03/2020 15:28

My MIL had a friend who married a man called Troy. I always thought that was a pretty cool name.

BikeRunSki · 01/03/2020 15:28

^Achilles MacDonald?
Doesn't work.^

Awesome pair of names! DDad had a colleague called Yakimoto Hamilton, I always loved the cultural juxtaposition of these names.

Pipandmum · 01/03/2020 15:27

Nooooo

PrincessHoneysuckle · 01/03/2020 15:27

I wouldnt want a name associated with part of a limb tbh

SnowyPetals · 01/03/2020 15:26

I think you really need a matching type surname to pull that one off. Achilles Mantoropolis maybe, Achilles Ramsbottom not so much.....

BiggerBoat1 · 01/03/2020 15:22

Definitely pretentious.

What are your husband's choices?

BikeRunSki · 01/03/2020 15:22

I wouldn’t give my child a name associated with weakness.

Shmithecat2 · 01/03/2020 15:21

'Weakness' comes to mind. Defo siding with your DH on this.
