A bit too out there?

Perfectly willing to accept that yes, maybe it is 🙈 Haven't has the nerve to bring it up to DH yet because I can predict his reaction...

I was driving along and the name October came to me, for a girl. I know a couple of people and celebs called January, and obviously there's April, May, June... My baby is due in October. I was thinking it's a bit like Ottilie and Octavia? Nicknames could be Ottie, Tobi?

Is this a really stupid name that my child would be embarrassed for life by? Would I be afraid to shout it in a supermarket? 🙈 Or does anyone else think it's the pretty and cool side of unusual?

OP posts:

find off = find odd

Omashu · 29/02/2020 08:09

I actually quite like it! It’s one of those names I’d find off at first but grow to get used to very quickly. Like when I watched the latest season of ‘You’ and there were twins names Love and Forty... By the end of the season they sounded like completely normal names!

My friends daughter is October, she sometimes gets tobi for short. I like it!

TwoFeets · 29/02/2020 07:15

I wouldn't use it personally but I'm not keen on using established words as names if that makes sense? But in this case I really don't like Otillie or Octavia either so the association doesn't help!

Picking a name is tricky, try to imagine introducing yourself to people as October - you could try it with strangers, would you be happy with that as your name?

My friend took her dog to a park just out of town and shouted any old name at him - if she wouldn't shout it or got funny looks she discounted it... The dog was Heaven-Leigh at one point which she realised sounded bloody ridiculous in her accent 🤣

It’s okay. I think I could grow to like it, actually.

EmotionalEllie · 29/02/2020 06:58

Yes, I'd go with Autumn.

whymewhyme · 29/02/2020 06:58

Sorry but it's a no from me, when i think of the names april and may i don't think of the month assosiated to the name but i do with october.

userabcname · 29/02/2020 06:57

You could, I don't think it's too bad. I'd prefer Autumn for a baby girl born at that time of year though.

I know an October. He’s about 7. People do often comment that they can guess his birthday etc 🙄
It’s not my choice but your child wouldn’t be the first to be called it.
