Would love some opinions on the following two names.
For context, I'm Irish living in England with my English husband.

Oran (pronounced Oar-an)
Rory

That might be a factor to consider if there's a chance the baby will have red hair.

I almost named one of my DDs Clementine. She dodged a massive bullet.

Most of lads in work, call Odhran "Orange" we're all Irish so not a pronunciation issue, more used in endearment.
I love Oìsin or Fionn. I wanted to call my DS Fionn initially.

Niall?

EmeraldShamrock · 01/03/2020 12:21

Odhran is a beautiful Irish name, my colleague is often asked to repeat his name. Yes Ruairi is nice is pronounced ru-ar_iee differently to Rory.

WentToMarket · 01/03/2020 12:19

Oran said with an English accent is perilously close to Oral.

Astronica · 01/03/2020 12:17

Rory

Rory definitely

OneKeyAtATime · 29/02/2020 19:53

Oran - it s a city to me. Had never heard of the name. Sounds nice though.

Like Rory best though

TheYearOfTheDog · 29/02/2020 19:46

I prefer Rory but I quite like Odran. Put the D in it so it's less like Onan though.

MikeUniformMike · 29/02/2020 19:44

Oran looks a bit like Oral.

Trying2310 · 29/02/2020 19:26

Odhran. Beautiful name.

CandyApple1995 · 29/02/2020 06:42

My friends little boy is Rory but it's spelt Ruairi which I believe is the Irish spelling. I love it x

IWouldLikeToKnow · 29/02/2020 06:39

Love Oran/Odhran

doodleina · 29/02/2020 05:58

It's so hard to decide! Thank you all for the feedback! I love both!

I think that English are likely to pronounce it like oran as in orange, whereas correct Irish pronunciation is Oar-un. But if the pronunciation doesn't bother you, go for it! I think it's a nicer name than Rory. My son has a short Irish name that is regularly mispronounced here, but it doesn't bother him (or me) in the slightest!

Bezalelle · 29/02/2020 05:54

Oran is a great name.

funmummy48 · 29/02/2020 05:24

I love Rory.

mathanxiety · 29/02/2020 05:20

Both lovely. I think I prefer Rory though.

Oran

beanaseireann · 28/02/2020 20:25

Odhran is No. 92 in the Irish top 100 Boys names of 2019.
It's gaining in popularity.
I only know of one and he's nearly 70 !

HarrietM87 · 28/02/2020 20:02

The Oran I know Scottish and pronounces it to rhyme with foreign. I’m Irish and have only ever seen it spelled Odhran - love the name, prefer it to Rory.

MadeForThis · 28/02/2020 19:59

clunkyinthebackend · 28/02/2020 19:49
