Hello everyone,
I'm just passing here to have an English opinion on the name Axel.
I am french and due to give birth to a baby boy in France in 3 weeks 😍
Our top of the list name is Axel.
(pronounce Aksel, not Aksul)

It's a lovely name in France, and not so common.

I would like an easy name in english speaking country, so that if he travels, it wouldn't be an issue.
(my real name is Fanny, and you can imagine the struggle I had..! Ended up using the name Annie when I lived in the uk! )

So what would you think if you meet someone called Axel ?
Thank you 🥰

😍 Thank you all !
It reassure me a lot that there's nothing majorly wrong with this name.
Can't wait to meet him 🥰. Have a great day xxx

Lovely name.. makes me think Axl Rose but that shows my age, not a problem for younger generations i’m sure Smile

I love it. I posted this same thread 5 years ago when thinking of names for my son and got absolutely slated. Someone even said they hoped I wasn't having a boy if I'd call them that 😂

Lovely name.

It's the name of one of our most well known children's book illustrators (Axel Scheffler) who illustrated the Gruffalo, etc

Theworldisfullofgs · 27/02/2020 07:56

I think it's great.

Bezalelle · 27/02/2020 07:53

Awful.

WTFsMyUserName · 27/02/2020 07:51

It's a lovely name. Here in London, I know two little boys named Axel.

YappityYapYap · 27/02/2020 07:50

Oh ok, I wasn't sure of the pronunciation in English, so thank you!
It doesn't really bother me, I think it's easy to correct quickly :)

As it is uncommon I immediately think ‘guns ‘n roses’ and might think you were a fan. This would disappear if I knew you weren’t or it seemed unconnected.
I like the name.

Whatsyourflava · 27/02/2020 07:47

I like it

Cross posted!

I do think most people in the UK would pronounce it Aksul though, if they weren’t told of the correct pronunciation first.

Lazydaisydaydream · 27/02/2020 07:44

I would automatically pronounce it axul until corrected. It's fine, but I know quite a few baby axels so I think it's a name on the rise - depends whether that bothers you?

I love it.
