Lily

I’m trying to talk myself out of this because it’s popular and not very original. But I really do like it. I can’t decide what I would regret more - not using it or having her be one of many in classes/groups etc.

DD1 is Ruby. I have explored a lot of options on her with MN and find it useful for honesty! So really just looking for opinions and also how many babies do you know named Lily?

We've got a Lily and Ruby (siblings) in our family. Lily is a lovely name .

ZoeandChandon · 25/02/2020 19:40

I think 2 names ending with y sounds too twee.

Moonfacebiggins · 25/02/2020 19:33

I have a 16 year old lily and there isn't another in her year at school. I love the name and couldn't think of calling her anything else. Although Jasmine was my second choice (didn't call my second daughter that though!)

FriedasCarLoad · 25/02/2020 19:23

I know several babies/girls called Lily. None called Lillian though...

Doodlesquah1 · 25/02/2020 19:18

I know siblings called lily and ruby. I love both names! Yes Lily is very popular but it’s a lovely name

DramaAlpaca · 25/02/2020 18:37

I really love Lily. It's old fashioned, simple and sweet. I don't care if it's popular. It goes well with Ruby.

Pickle55 · 25/02/2020 17:45

I know one baby called Lily who was born last August. It’s a pretty name.

Whatsyourflava · 25/02/2020 14:35

I just adore Lily too

@mamablondie the numbers of babies called Lily have been falling every year since 2011 so it’s way less popular now than when you had Ruby

For me the popularity of a name isn’t as important as the trajectory. If a name is about to boom (ie any of the “fastest rising top 100 names”) then I’d avoid it. But a name like Lily I would use.

I don’t know any babies called Lily by the way

AllStar14 · 25/02/2020 14:27

I know 3 Lily's, it is a lovely name.

LetItGoHome · 25/02/2020 14:16

I prefer Lilian. You would still get to call her Lily. I shouldn't think there will be any other Lilian's in the class x

VioletVerity · 25/02/2020 14:13

I love Lily OP, if you love it - go with it!
I only know 1 Lily.

My DD is Violet & that's getting more popular but I don't care. It was the only girls name I loved.

ErrolTheDragon · 25/02/2020 14:12

I don't know any girl babies at the moment.

But lily is pretty without being cloying, timeless and goes well with ruby.

*on here that should say :)
