Ruan?

Any thoughts on this name?
Not pregnant but currently thinking about ttc number 3.

Ruan is cornish I believe, I think there's also a gaelic version. (happy to be corrected!)

Pronounced Roo-an.

How would you pronounce it on first glance? Would you think its a typo?

It’s the city in France

Thinkingaboutsummer2020 · 25/02/2020 05:23

I would have said it was pronounced ‘Rown’ - I like it

partofyoupoursoutofme · 25/02/2020 05:20

It's lovely! The pronunciation seems relatively obvious I think. Great choice.

I knew a lovely lad called Ruan when I was growing up and the stretch of river leading up to the village which he was named after is one of my favourite places in Cornwall.

Peony99 · 24/02/2020 21:29

Great name - it has a very friendly sound to it.

Not keen, far nicer names out there.

FluffyEggsontoast · 24/02/2020 21:19

It’s ok but extremely similar to a whole lot of other very popular names (already listed in this thread). You have selected less common/more unusual type names for your other 2 children so wanted to make you aware that this name could blend in with a few others in the top 100

shartymcfarty · 24/02/2020 21:14

It's lovely! The name of a village near me, it's a Cornish saint name. Mawgan is also a popular name as well as a small village near here.

CLivvy · 24/02/2020 21:04

Ohhhh, I like it!

CoisFarraige · 24/02/2020 21:03

Yes, also an Irish name meaning red-haired - Ruán - can also be spelt Ruadhán if you really want to flummox people! Similar Irish boy's name is Ríoghán - meaning 'little king' - pronounced Ree-un.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 24/02/2020 20:58

I love it, it is Cornish, it's also my DS middle name, which we are slightly regretting, but only because if we have another boy we couldn't use it as a first name!

emmathedilemma · 24/02/2020 20:57

I quite like it, reminds me of Ruaridh a bit.

KindleAndCake · 24/02/2020 20:52

SunInTheSkyYouKnowHowIFeel · 24/02/2020 20:47

I'm pretty sure people can handle differnt sounding names, I really like it as bit different but still a real name if you see what I mean

Whatsyourflava · 24/02/2020 20:45

Sorry I don’t like it and it’ll forever be mis spelt and confused with other names.
There’s so many Roman/Rowan/Rohan/Roans about so don’t use this name if you’re wanting something a bit different. Roman was last years fastest rising name
