nn for Pamela

What would be a good nn for Pamela? There's Pam of course, but wondering what else could work? Do you think it's a stretch when people nn names not obvious to its source? It's a family name so would be great to have as first name, but wondering if there's a way to make it more unique. Could a Pamela have a nn such as Polly or Pearl? Thanks 😊

Please don't pick a nickname that's really different to the name. It's like being two different people.

Pam

Pammy

I met a Milla once, who I was astonished to find out was actually christened Pamela. She hated her name, was Milla everywhere and I only found out via her drivers license (and was sworn to secrecy!!)

My mum is called Pamela and does not really like it being shortened at all. (She did have a friend who called her Spam for a laugh though) not sure there is a good shortened version in reality.

One of my cousins was called Pamela and she would have strong words with anyone who dared called her Pammie and who could blame her, it's horrible.

I have a friend called Pamela and she hates it so goes by 'La'. Sounds weird but it does really work!!

Blimey that's a stretch. A bit like my friend Sharon who insists on being called Ron.

I don't think Pamela's ready for a comeback yet.

I love Pamela. You could have Ella as a nickname but Ella is so common compared to Pamela that it seems a shame. I like Pami/Pammie as a nickname- it has a really lovely sound to it.

74NewStreet · 24/02/2020 13:56

Why use Pamela when you want Polly or Pearl?? Have it as a middle name if you don’t want to actually use it.

Grufallosfriends · 24/02/2020 13:55

The natural shortening for Pamela is Pam or Pammie. Most Pamelas I know use their full name.

Pearl or Polly are completely different names!

PlantPotting · 24/02/2020 12:49

No Polly or pearl would be a huge stretch I think
Something like that would have to happen naturally. I do know people that have nicknames totally different from actual name but it’s come abo it organically
I think if you like pearl or Polly - use it
I don’t Like Pamela myself

emmathedilemma · 24/02/2020 12:43

Pammy

MikeUniformMike · 24/02/2020 12:29

Polly and Pearl are names not nn, although Polly is a nn for Mary.
Neither seem like suitable nnfor Pamela.
Pammy is cute for a little one.

You could use Pamela as a mn.

Ella?
