Yes sleep, not a Tory, though Grin

CaptainMyCaptain · 04/03/2020 19:23

I've known a few Anthonys in school, none of them shortened to Tony.

RedSheep73 · 04/03/2020 19:22

DH is an Antony (you've spelt it wrong btw ;) ), but is only ever Antony when he's in trouble...seriously though, you'll always get some people who shorten a name, whether you like it or not, but your child will decide what he wants to be called.

Sleepthief · 04/03/2020 19:21

Wasn't Tony Benn an Anthony?

CharitySchmarity · 04/03/2020 19:13

I think it's generational - there aren't many Tonys under 50. He'll be Anthony or possibly Ant, depending on what his friends are like.

Mumma4262 · 03/03/2020 09:19

My brother is Anthony, not once has he ever been called Tony!

user1493413286 · 24/02/2020 21:29

My DH has never been called Tony although I do shorten it to Ant

AlpacaGoodnight · 24/02/2020 21:27

In my experience they usually get Ant

heidbuttsupper · 24/02/2020 19:12

I know an Anton

Cookit · 24/02/2020 19:09

Not the ones I’ve ever met.

mondler · 24/02/2020 19:00

The only 1 I know goes by Anthony

SumAndSubstance · 24/02/2020 17:32

No, not in this day and age.

StormTreader · 24/02/2020 17:13

My brother is an Anthony and he's never been Tony in his whole life to my knowledge - he goes by Ant.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 24/02/2020 16:53

My nephew is Anthony to his mum, aunts and uncles, Ant to his cousins and friends, and Tony to people who don't know him very well. He prefers Ant over everything.

Whatsyourflava · 24/02/2020 16:49

I think there are other nn options

Probably will get shortened though

BohoBunney · 24/02/2020 13:39

just to echo others, Anthonys I’ve know have been Anthony or Ant. The only Tony I knew was a Tony on his birth certificate

PlantPotting · 24/02/2020 13:28

I read the same @Abelino 🤣

Nowayorhighway · 24/02/2020 13:09

The Anthony I went to school with never shortened it.

HopeYouStepOnALego · 24/02/2020 11:09

My brother is an Anthony and he hates it, always has. He goes by Tony, though one friend calls him Ant. He refuses to answer you if you call him Anthony, especially if you sound out the 'th' like in the word 'thanks'.

Abelino · 24/02/2020 11:05

I read this as 'Is Anthony destined to be Tory'.
I agree that Ant is more likely than Tony, but I know a few young Anthonys who are called by their full name all the time.

Bezalelle · 24/02/2020 11:01

Old Anthonies are Tony.

Young Anthonies are Ant.

Them's the rules.

Chickenitalia · 23/02/2020 19:41

I think Ant is likely to be the more common short form now, thanks to Ant & Dec. The only Tony I know, that’s his given name. I know two Ants and one Anthony, always in full. If you want the full name and use it consistently it will stick, imo.

pipilangstrumpfi · 23/02/2020 19:39

I like Anthony as it is! I wouldn't shorten it.

pipilangstrumpfi · 23/02/2020 19:38

Ant 🐜?! Really?

iklboo · 23/02/2020 18:38

I know a Tony, an Ant, an Anthony and a 'Toe'
