Benjamin.

Surname Jenkins. I'm thinking does "Ben..." "Jen.." sound odd?

And should I be worried about the initials?

Do we generally like the name Benjamin?

My friends as teens used to take the mick out of a teacher at school with the initials BJ

Pieceofpurplesky · 24/02/2020 19:25

Ben Jen (kins) is a no No from me.

Something short and snappy
Zach Jenkins
Finn Jenkins
Ned Jenkins
Max? Luke?

If you can think of another name you both like then I'd personally avoid the bj initials but if you really can't find another one then it won't be the end of the world. I ruled out Benjamin because of my surname but it's such a silly surname I had to rule out quite a few names I liked. Thankfully we found one we loved. Good luck, this naming game isn't easy!

Nowayorhighway · 24/02/2020 16:54

I went to school with a Ben Jennings, it was honestly fine and no one made the BJ link. One of my best friend’s is Benjamin James, again no one bothered about the BJ link.

pandaeyesandpuffyskin · 24/02/2020 12:06

Very mixed responses I guess. Many thanks for your opinions everyone!

I have a child with the initials BJ , well he doesn't actually, his actual name is W, but he only goes by B.

If teens want to take the piss, they will. I remember a boy with a girls name at school, who was a cool kid and no one took the piss, and someone with the totally innocuous surname Green, who was GreenisPenis all through school.

pipilangstrumpfi · 23/02/2020 19:45

No way. BJ is not great nor is the sound Ben Jen(kind).

Hepsibar · 23/02/2020 19:41

I like it very much either as Ben Jenkins or Benjamin Jenkins.

MikeUniformMike · 23/02/2020 19:39

When I was a teen, I don't think I'd have known what a BJ was. I knew about fellatio.

Bohomie · 23/02/2020 19:39

I used to know a Benjamin Jenkins at school. Afaik there were never any issues with his name or initials.

pandaeyesandpuffyskin · 23/02/2020 19:38

I can't believe how strongly people feel about this! Haha

MrsAgassi · 23/02/2020 19:35

Your child will not want the initials BJ when he’s a teen.

If Benjamin is the only name you like then change your surname!

pandaeyesandpuffyskin · 23/02/2020 19:31

Teens were the main group I was worried about Grin

GetTheSprinkles · 23/02/2020 19:29

Wouldnt give the BJ thing a second thought personally. Kids at the age to tease wouldnt know what it is and older kids should have more sense (or am I giving teens too much credit)?
Only just realised Boris Johnson is BJ, never thought about this before and it doesnt affect my opinion of him.
If you like the name, go for it.

Wintersun13 · 23/02/2020 19:28

Well, my son's initials are BB. In my language when spoken out loud it means "baby". Was worried too but went ahead anyway. It has yet to be a problem.

FenellaMaxwell · 23/02/2020 19:28

It doesn’t sound right. Also BJ is terrible.

pandaeyesandpuffyskin · 23/02/2020 19:26

Interesting as I don't think it is a mouthful. I like it. It's just the BJ thing I'm worrying about which is incredibly annoying because it's a stupid thing to take the piss out of....

HindsightIs2020Vision · 23/02/2020 19:24

Ben Jenkins sounds great.
I know lots of people with the initials BJ, and until I came on here didn't think anything.

veryphishy · 23/02/2020 19:17

I knew someone who had BJ in their car reg number and people took the piss out of him over that. Maybe I just know really juvenile people but I wouldn't take the chance.

I was going to say the name is a bit of a mouthful anyway but realised I was possibly making things worse. 😄

pandaeyesandpuffyskin · 23/02/2020 16:19

There's literally no other names we like 😩

OP posts:
IckleBear · 23/02/2020 15:48

I wouldn't.

pandaeyesandpuffyskin · 23/02/2020 13:35

Oooog mixed responses. He would have an "M" as a middle name if that changes anything....

Although I'm sure there are millions of "BJ"s out there who manage ok...

Mamabear88 · 23/02/2020 12:17

I love the name Benjamin. Ben Jen not a massive issue. BJ initials a big fat no.

jfoyo26 · 23/02/2020 11:59

Didn't call my daughter Katie because of the initials KY - Teenagers are cruel! I would avoid BJ

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 23/02/2020 11:51

Benjamin is a lovely name but I don't think it works with Jenkins, sorry OP!
