Finding MN so helpful right now in our never ending search for the perfect girls name!

Latest addition is Mabel. I’d appreciate some thoughts please - DD1 is Ruby.

Thanks in advance :)

Please if you go with Mabel spell it Mabel😀.

hannahfaith · 20/02/2020 21:02

I love Mabel
If you're worried about it seeming dated I know someone who chose Maybelle instead of Mabel for that reason

MurrayTheMonk · 20/02/2020 20:15

Mabel is getting very trendy again now. I'm still not keen really.

Itwasntme1 · 20/02/2020 18:02

Great name. Love it.

I have loved the name since Paul and Jamie called heir baby Mabel in mad about you. Am I really old or does anyone remember that.

yadayadayesokay · 20/02/2020 17:57

I’ve just named my second daughter Mabel, I love it! But am aware it’s a bit of a marmite name, although I think it’s due a comeback.

I think it would go well with Ruby. My DD1 is Ivy.

NotNowPlzz · 20/02/2020 17:53

I adore it.

bridgetreilly · 20/02/2020 17:51

Mabel Ivy would be lovely.

bridgetreilly · 20/02/2020 17:51

I like it but I suspect it's going to be in the next wave of cool names. Mabel, Gladys and Ethel.

emmathedilemma · 20/02/2020 17:49

I think it’s great!

Claphands · 20/02/2020 17:43

Mabel is such a sweet name, I am sure it was popular a few years ago wasn’t it? Anyway it’s lovely!

WatcherintheRye · 20/02/2020 17:40

I love Mabel. I think it's really pretty. I would have had one, if any of my dc had been girls! (Looking at you, ds1!)

shuuush · 20/02/2020 17:40

My beagle is called Mabel

mamablondie · 20/02/2020 17:38

@Whatsyourflava I think you may have helped on my previous threads but the rest of my list is currently:

Jasmine
Ivy
Lillian (Lily)
Holly
Isobel

Briefly contemplated but ruled out: Florence, Matilda, Iris, Lola and Violet. We go through SO many girls names but settled on a boy really easily.

@BarbaraBeast ah thanks! I’m a teacher too and we have ruled out so many because of bad experiences lol.

I absolutely adore Mabel, @mamablondie it’s close to top of my list if I ever have a girl! What other names are on your list?

OnlyToWin · 20/02/2020 16:38

I really like it. Would have a teen named it now but DH vetoed it! I knew I was ahead of the curve!!Grin

Rosere · 20/02/2020 16:32

Love it. I know a few and they are all lovely. It's just a great timeless name.

hazandduck · 20/02/2020 16:30

My best friend’s baby girl is Mabel - she is the most gorgeous happy little thing and has made me absolutely love the name. Yes from me!

BarbaraBeast · 20/02/2020 16:27

I used to teach a Ruby and her little sister Mabel-they were gorgeous and came from such a cool, quirky family Smile

Maduixa · 20/02/2020 14:58

I like it. Reminds me of maple - as in trees, sugar, and syrup - and I am wholly in favour of these. And it's a completely legitimate, traditional girls' name. That said, I might be tempted by "Amabel". I find I have "Arabel" persistently on my baby name short list. No idea how it got there, but I love it.

KitNCaboodle · 20/02/2020 14:31

I love Mabel. It was on my shortlist 14 years ago and I sometimes have pangs of regret for not using it.

WomanIsTaken · 20/02/2020 14:24

Mabel is lovely!

LittleBoyJuly2020 · 20/02/2020 14:23

Mabel, Darcy and Elowyn were my top three if this baby was a girl. I love it and it goes really well with Ruby Smile

Biscuitsneeded · 20/02/2020 14:20

Mabel goes well with Ruby, I think. Both Edwardian style names. Otehrs that might work:

Nancy
Sally
Peggy
Dora
Daphne
Kitty
Alice
Nell
Clara
Agnes

MrsAgassi · 20/02/2020 14:19

My aunt was called Mabel, she always hated her name. I really dislike the name but I may have been influenced by her feelings about it.
