Avonlea?

Might just be my hormones but I recently have been obsessed with the possibility of having a little girl named Avonlea.
It's a fictional literary place name from Anne of Green Gables but it sounds like it would fit so well with all of the other vowel girls names with v sounds ( i.e. Olivia, Ava, Evie)
DH said he'd consider it if we could find a cute middle name for it so send some suggestions. We both prefer short middle names as our last name is quite long.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
helpmum2003 · 19/02/2020 16:19

Use it as the middle name.

Nowayorhighway · 19/02/2020 16:18

Just reminds me of Avon.

FakeFraudSquad · 19/02/2020 16:08

It’s not pronounced Av-on-leah.

It’s Av-on-lee

Slightly less flowery than some posters think. I actually think it’s ok. Not too common, not too offensive!

As for the produce comments...Ariel is a washing powder, Yasmin is a contraceptive pill...there is a well known Madam in my local area with my perfectly ordinary name!

I’ve heard worse and I’ve heard better (actually I do prefer Cordelia or even Marilla!) but if you love it OP go for it. Would you consider it for a middle name?

Whoops75 · 19/02/2020 16:02

Definitely sounds like a noise or nursing home name.

Back to the drawing board OP x

Monstamio · 19/02/2020 15:59

Daughters' names, I mean. Think she has three?

Monstamio · 19/02/2020 15:58

Huge Anne fan here too, but this isn't a good idea. Call her Cordelia or Diana or one of Anne's daughter's names...

diddlediddle · 19/02/2020 12:42

Don't do it!

Words · 19/02/2020 11:11

It's also the name of a care home for the demented. So, no. !

StormDenise · 19/02/2020 11:04

It's the name of my neighbours' house.

So it's a no from me - sounds like a house, street or town not a girl's name!

Figgygal · 19/02/2020 10:59

Agree with others it sounds like a dairy brand, a b&b or would be shortened to Avon.

It’s just a terrible name all round it’s not even a name really please don’t

Shmithecat2 · 19/02/2020 10:56

Sounds like a brand name for dairy products.

glitterbiscuits · 19/02/2020 10:49

Sounds like a budget yoghurt brand.

Fairybobbin · 19/02/2020 10:48

I love AOGG, so I get it! I had it on our list too 😊. I think Avonlea sounds lovely. Does he like more traditional or modern names?

Avonlea Eve
Avonlea Rose
Avonlea Jane
Avonlea Grace
Avonlea Belle

Avonlea Luna
Avonlea Raine
Avonlea Pearl
Avonlea Blossom
Avonlea Faye

Overthinker1988 · 19/02/2020 10:08

Posts like this is why I think there should be a list of approved names that you can choose from, like in some countries back in totalitarian times.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 19/02/2020 09:25

Sounds cheesy to me..,

PineappleDanish · 19/02/2020 09:04

Sounds like a dairy. Please, please don't.

Boireannachlaidir · 19/02/2020 09:03

Oh dear.

sandybanana · 19/02/2020 09:03

Sorry but that's a silly name.

Reminds me of Dairylea cheese combined with a bird Aviary.

Please don't do that

Marilynmansonsothereye · 19/02/2020 09:01

Avery?

It makes me think of road to Avonlea ( an old film).

ViserionTheDragon · 19/02/2020 09:00

Don't do that to the poor child. If you really must, use it as a middle name and give her a sensible first name.

Canshopwillshop · 19/02/2020 08:56

That’s the name of the B&B round the corner from me!

ScarlettBlaize · 19/02/2020 08:54

@HeronLanyon
I don't even eat cheese! It just really looks like it Grin

HeronLanyon · 19/02/2020 08:12

Actually it sounds ‘eavenly’

Theroigne · 19/02/2020 08:12

Actually @pinkyredrose has said it better than me!

Theroigne · 19/02/2020 08:12

Sounds like a brand of West Country cheese. Please don’t.
