I love Olive. Can’t use it myself as we have a relative called Oliver but I would if I could

Ritascornershop · 18/02/2020 05:02

I really like
Iris
Esme
Pearl
Hazel
Violet

The rest are ranging from okay to nice, except Lyra, which sounds harsh to me (& too much like lying).

Pemba · 18/02/2020 04:52

I like Clara, Grace, Lyra and Phoebe. Hazel is OK.

Sorry but I dislike all the others, especially Willa.

Ikeameatballs · 17/02/2020 23:10

I also like:

Vita
Polly
Hattie
Sadie
Jean
Norah
Hannah
Greta

Iris - ok
Willa - hideous
Esme - nice
Clara - lovely
Pearl - no
Hazel - no
Margot - ok but will date
Violet - no
Olive - no
Grace - meh
Mabel - ok for a rabbit
Merryn - no
Lyra - ok
Phoebe - awful
Connie - prefer Constance with nn Nancy

17caterpillars1mouse · 17/02/2020 21:18

Iris - I really like it and although it seems to be popping up loads on here, I only know of 2 irl

Willa I like it. I much prefer it to Willow which sounds a bit weak to me

Esme - not a fan

Clara - lovely name
Pearl - lovely name
Hazel - I like this too

Margot - not a fan

Violet - it's OK

Olive - love it. It would be a serious contender if we were to have a dd3

Grace - I like it

Mabel - love but clashes with my surname :(

Merryn - lovely and unusual
Lyra - like
Phoebe - love
Connie - love as a nn for Constance

A really wonderful list, good luck choosing

Wintersun13 · 17/02/2020 19:25

Iris - the meaning is nice and I like the name

Willa - like it but maybe nicer as a diminutive for Willow

Esme - sorry, twilight ruined forever that name for me

Clara - sounds old to me. Like Clarissa - Clary.

Pearl - not a fan of one syllable names. They sound abrupt and unfinished to me.

Hazel - why not. No strong feelings on this one.

Margot - isn't that a diminutive of Margaret ? Either way, not a fan. Sounds old fashioned to me.

Violet - sorry but I don't like it. Sounds close to "violated" to me. Also sounds old, though I know it's quite popular atm so maybe that's just me.

Olive - nice but prefer Olivia

Grace - dislike. No reason. Just don't like the sound and again, one syllable names

Mabel - sounds old fashioned to me

Merryn - like it. Nice sound.

Lyra - like very much. Poetic, strong.

Phoebe - not a fan.

Connie - short for Constance. Not a standalone name imo.

You seem to like the greek classical names so I would suggest :

Helen
Lydia
Diane
Chloe
Daphne
Eirene
Juno
Phaedra
Rhea
Thalia

mamablondie · 17/02/2020 18:54

Clara- no
Pearl - no
Hazel - yes I like
Margot- no
Violet- lovely!
Olive - like
Grace- NO! As a teacher I can’t stress enough that Graces are not graceful.
Mabel - very cute
Merryn - no
Lyra- no no no
Phoebe - lovely! Would use myself but too much like my DD1s name
Connie - sweet, not sure about an adult called Connie tho?

Crunchymum · 17/02/2020 15:13

manicinsomniac · 17/02/2020 15:09

Iris - Love this. Beautiful, elegant name.
Willa - not sure. It's ok.
Esme - like it.
Clara - it's ok.
Pearl - not keen on this. don't like the errl sound.
Hazel - like it. Very unusual for a baby now.
Margot - not keen.
Violet - it's ok.
Olive - really don't like this. Not sure why because I like Olivia. Maybe just because I hate olives so much!
Grace - really like it. Would worry slightly about an ungraceful Grace though.
Mabel - not keen. Can't get this one out on old lady territory in my head.
Merryn - like it
Lyra - love it.
Phoebe - like it
Connie - like it but would use Constance as a full name.

I'd choose Iris or Lyra. Probably Iris.

Other ideas:
Arya, Astrid, Alice, Bronte, Bethan, Bella, Carys, Cerys, Cassie, Daphne, Darcey, Delphi, Erin, Eden, Elsie, Freya, Faith, Faye, Giselle, Hope, Honor, Halle, Ivy, Isla, Ingrid, Juno, Jasmine, Jonquil, Kiki, Kitty, Katy, Layla, Lois, Lindy, Mila, Mika, Mala, Nia, Nora, Nina, Orla, Opal, Odette, Pippa, Polly, Piper, Quinn, Rosie, Ruby, Rhiann, Sadie, Sorrel, Sylvie, Tara, Tessa, Thea, Una, Vashti, Veda, Wren, Willow, Wanda, Xanthe, Yasmin, Yvette, Zia, Zara, Zoe

HalfBloodPrincess · 17/02/2020 15:01

I love Violet, Hazel and Iris from your list. Like PP I only like Clara pronounced as Clare-ah, to rhyme with sarah.

Willa is awful, I've seen it suggested a few times on here and cant get my head around the love for it- it's like half a name

TempsPerdu · 17/02/2020 14:57

Iris - this has really grown on me lately. Perhaps a little harsh-sounding but classy and elegant.
Willa - really like this
Esme - meh, sounds a bit insipid to me - sort of generic pretty name
Clara - OK, getting quite popular if this is a concern
Pearl - OK, works better as a middle name imo
Hazel - OK, think it might date as it’s suddenly very popular again. Nice nature/colour links though.
Margot - no, sounds and looks unpleasant and will be incredibly faddy
Violet - meh, another trendy/faddy choice
Olive - no, dowdy and plain. Can’t see why it’s being revived tbh.
Grace - just incredibly dull
Mabel - archetypal newly trendy old lady name - not keen
Merryn - beautiful!
Lyra - really like this and the Northern Lights link but it’s part of the current Lily/Lila/Lara/Laila trend so might end up a bit lost in the crowd
Phoebe - nice, sounded fresh a few years ago but perhaps a bit bland now

Connie - no, not strong enough to stand alone for me and I’m not keen on Constance

My shortlist would be Iris, Willa, Merryn and possibly Lyra and Hazel.

Other ideas:
Rosa
Vita
Greta
Audrey
Etta
Beatrix
Gaia
Nancy
Cleo
Tessa

Merryn- like

Phoebe - it's okay
