What does everyone think about naming a baby boy Marnie? Is it just for girls? Opinions 😊

Barney and Marley are nice!

Byets · 15/02/2020 19:47

I just have always really liked the name marnie! There's no real connection to it, and this thread certainly wasn't me dead set on naming my boy Marnie. I just wanted to see other people's opinions on it which are obviously quite strong 🙈

I like pretty names, even for boys.

@Eleanor90 ahhh the only person who doesn't think I'm crazy!! 🤣💙 Acey is really sweet!!

Just no.

averythinline · 15/02/2020 19:45

why would you? what is it that you like about the name - I wouldnt as it is firmly a female name in my head and I had no wish for my Ds to be a 'boy named sue' but I also dont like it that much - so wouldnt use it for a girl either... names that sound similiar
Barney , Bertie, Ronnie, Charlie
similar
Frankie, Percy,

Elouera · 15/02/2020 19:42

I agree, dislike it for a girl, let alone a boy! As others have said, what do you like about it? The sound, family connection or something else?

Eleanor90 · 15/02/2020 19:40

I’d say no, because I don’t like the name much, but it’s interesting how people react to a “girl” name on a boy. It’s a shame that it’s seen as acceptable the other way round, but never this way.

I quite like the spelling Marney for a boy, actually. I know a Marley, if you like that, and also a Verney and an Acey, which are kind of similar.

Hercwasonaroll · 15/02/2020 19:37

No

percheron67 · 15/02/2020 19:36

Your child you can call him what you wish. However, Marnie is pretty dreadful for a girl and not even a boy's name. Are you a Hitchcock fan?

TheWordmeister · 15/02/2020 19:36

Don't be daft. It's a girl's name.

Figgygal · 15/02/2020 19:35

It’s a girls name
However you spell it
Please done

maddiemookins16mum · 15/02/2020 19:34

Just call your Son a proper name and spare the poor lad years of ridicule and explanations.

Marcipex · 15/02/2020 19:33

God no

YouOnlyLiveTwice · 15/02/2020 19:26

*posters

YouOnlyLiveTwice · 15/02/2020 19:25

Why do you like that name for a boy? Perhaps if you can explain that then poster can help suggest similar names that would work better for a boy. Because no matter how you spell it, Marnie isn’t a great boy’s name. Sorry!

WhereShallWeMoveTo · 15/02/2020 19:25

Don’t be silly.

helia · 15/02/2020 19:25

No.

Arnie/Arnold? Barney?

Elbeagle · 15/02/2020 19:24

Definitely a girls name. And not even a nice one.

WinterCat · 15/02/2020 19:24

I think it’s bad enough to give a boy a stereotypical girl name but infinitely worse to do so with a different spelling. Aren’t there some other names you like?

IOYOYO · 15/02/2020 19:23

Personally wouldn’t. I very much see it as a girls name.

ReturnofSaturn · 15/02/2020 19:23

Good god no.

LeekMunchingSheepShagger · 15/02/2020 19:23

Yeah it’s a girls name.

Byets · 15/02/2020 19:22

Woah maybe not then was contemplating it with a different spelling like 'marni' or 'marney' 😂

Please don’t - unless you truly resent him.

Muwanian · 15/02/2020 19:20

Stuffy

Singingatmidnight · 15/02/2020 19:20

Girl's name. Barney?
