Cornish baby names?

Hi all,

Newley pregnant so it's very easy days, but starting to look for baby names. My husband has strong links to Cornwall and we got married there, so I'd love to find a nice Cornish name. Does anyone know of any that aren't too 'out there' - thinking along the lines of Gabriel or Gethin in Wales? Love those ones, but wrong Celtic location!

Boy and girl names welcome!

Thanks Smile

My favourite boy's name trio: Jago, Jory and Jowan (aka James, George and John). Also like Kitto.
Jennifer, Morwenna or Tegan (TEG-an with a short 'e') for a girl.

mumdebump · 10/02/2020 12:57

Petroc for a boy.

doublebarrellednurse · 10/02/2020 11:11

I love morwenna and Morgan. Tamar (Taymar I've also seen it spelt). Eden. Lowen.

Could go hardcore and go Brunel 🤪 or controversial Devon.

I'm Cornish btw. Those last two may be a joke.

I know a girl called Mailli (pronounced Maylee) which is Cornish for Mary or Molly.

Mybobowler · 10/02/2020 11:01

Merryn and Piran (boy's name, rhymes with Keiran) were on my name lists. Cornish names are great!

KindKylie · 10/02/2020 10:57

There's a Veryan near me actually! I hadn't ade the connection before

AlliKaneErikson · 10/02/2020 10:29

I love the Cornish place names Veryan and Gwithian (but wasn’t brave enough to use them!).

Whatdotheywear · 10/02/2020 10:27

How about after a place in Cornwall - Sennen?
I know someone called Kynance too!

INeedToGetHealthy · 10/02/2020 00:17

My DM joked about me being called Demelza due to her Cornish heritage but she went with a name that was popular in the mid 1970s. I did call one of my dolls Demelza though.

I don't know loads but half of my family are Cornish and my cousin has named his two boys traditional Cornish names, Koen and Tean and I think they're lovely. So many lovely names to choose from Smile

Some of these names are very mainstream and never would have thought of as Cornish peticulaly. (Such as Tamara, Loveday, Tamsin)

KindKylie · 09/02/2020 23:28

I met a Zennor from Cornwall once.

I also love Morwenna, Loveday and Sennen.

We're in the West Country and I know adults called Kerensa and Tamara.

Carenza

One of my favourite names ❤️

BlackCatsRule88 · 09/02/2020 23:18

(I’m aware Lamorna is a name in its own right obviously)

BlackCatsRule88 · 09/02/2020 23:17

I met a Lamorna recently and thought it was a beautiful name. Turns out it’s the name of a village and cove in Cornwall. Google maps could be a could place for inspiration if you don’t find a name you like!
