Cornish baby names?

Hi all,

Newley pregnant so it's very easy days, but starting to look for baby names. My husband has strong links to Cornwall and we got married there, so I'd love to find a nice Cornish name. Does anyone know of any that aren't too 'out there' - thinking along the lines of Gabriel or Gethin in Wales? Love those ones, but wrong Celtic location!

Boy and girl names welcome!

Thanks Smile

Lowenna is my favourite!

Petroc is gorgeous. Also Elowen/Lowenna.

If I had had a DD, I'd have been tempted to use Foye as a middle name

BooseysMom · 11/02/2020 21:16

I once worked with a bloke called Brycchan who said his name was Cornish.

GuyFawkesDay · 10/02/2020 21:43

Jennifer is indeed Cornish for Guinevere

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 10/02/2020 21:39

I knew a family with kids called - and these are probably spelt completely wrong - Carvor, Acamie and Kavic, I think. I’m sure they said they were Cornish.

Heckythump1 · 10/02/2020 21:26

I know a lovely chap called Trevelyan.... Think it's a cracking name!

dementedma · 10/02/2020 21:18

I adore Petroc for a boy. Saw it in a book and wanted it but DH was having none of it. It’s a brilliant name.

Charis1503 · 10/02/2020 21:17

'Piran' is a cornish saint. My Cornish friend has called her boy this :)

Google cornish patron saints and lots of cool names!

Has anyone mentioned Bethany?

I think you have to be a bit careful of the Poldark effect and go for the more "mainstream" names like Demelza and Morwenna than the more Poldark specific ones like Clowance.

I had a school friend called Loveday. She was teased mercilessly. This was back in the 80s. I think schools would be better at stamping it out now but I'm not sure I'd risk it.

Bezalelle · 10/02/2020 18:58

Does nobody else think Loveday sounds a bit like a sort of promotional 'day' launched by a sex toy company?

"Today is LOVEDAY. 50% off vibrators"

There are some gorgeous Cornish names, but that one just jars.

I thought Carrick was a good name for a boy in Cornwall (after Carrick Roads estuary on the river Fal).

It was pointed out the dustcarts also had Carrick on the side at that time!

slippermaiden · 10/02/2020 13:41

I think Jennifer is Cornish for Guinevere.
