Alice or Adeline?

Looking for some opinions on these 2.... I love them both but really want to pick something not too 'popular'. I like that Alice is more 'classic' as that's definitely my style, but it's i think it's number 23 in popularity and this bothers me.

I want something uncommon (as in not loads in the class) but that people won't do a double take when they hear. I would pronounce Adeline like Madeline without the M.

Thoughts? And do you think they will get more or less popular? Name berry thinks there's about to be a surge in Adelines due to the already popular Ada/Ava etc

Thanks

I just LOVE Alice ❤️😍 So classic and gorgeous

LizzieAnt · 24/02/2020 12:36

I prefer Adeline - pronounced with the 'leen' ending though. Not as keen on the 'line' or 'lyn' endings.

Poorolddaddypig · 23/02/2020 16:55

Adeline 🥰 beautiful and vintage and unusual

SebandAlice · 22/02/2020 23:19

Alice I love but love Adelaide even more. Not a fan of Adeline

Georgie077 · 22/02/2020 23:05

What about Alice spelt the Welsh way: Alys?

Poundcakelindsay · 15/02/2020 13:15

Love Adeline. That -line sounds is so feminine

Nel246 · 15/02/2020 13:11

Alice

Overthinker1988 · 10/02/2020 14:24

I like both, I don't think Alice is too popular...it's a classic name, very different from names like Isla or Ava which are trendy now but won't age well IMO.
I do prefer Adeline though, first time I've heard of it but it's very pretty and modern sounding without being too trendy. What about Adelina, or Adele/Adella?

Standrewsschool · 10/02/2020 02:30

What about Aveline or Adelaide as an alternative?

(Nb. The older generation may remember Aveline from the tv series Bread, but most people under a certain age won’t know this link).

Tdaadfb100 · 10/02/2020 02:26

Adelina ?

PonderLand · 10/02/2020 01:52

@emmathedilemma as an Alice I can say that you are correct. Also whenever there is an Alice in a film or book they are usually portrayed as mad/quirky/eccentric. I like my name, it's never been a problem and you can always find a key ring/cup/headband with it on! I choose Alice Grin

Happyandglorious · 10/02/2020 01:35

Alice

NoSauce · 08/02/2020 12:05

Alice. It’s not in the same league as Isla, Ava and Evie. Alice is a classic.

Astronica · 07/02/2020 23:34

Alice is my clear favourite of those - I love it. And no, I don't find it overdone.
I dislike Adeline, but love Adelaide. Adeline is increasing in popularity and is very popular atm in US (along with lots of variations all in the US popular names lists: Adelynn, Adalyn etc) If you add all the spelling and pronunciation variations on Adeline/Adalyn it's more popular than if you just look at Adeline alone.

Alice is beautiful, really classic, Adeline isn't.

@Whatsyourflava that is such a useful website! I have been looking for something that shows numbers like that. Thanks!

I just love the name Alice so much

Whatsyourflava · 07/02/2020 21:01

Alice is used way less than Isla and Evie @bobbypinseverywhere - just look at the numbers

It’s also on a downward trajectory which is always good if you’re worried about popularity

A Couple of years ago 4,000 baby girls were being named Isla every year. Alice is closer to 1,500

For all those saying Alice - the only thing putting me off is the possible popularity. If you heard it would you think "nice but popular/over done" or is it not yet in the Isla / Evie league? (Again not picking on any particular names - they are all lovely but sometimes when I hear it I think oh another one!)

Alice

HannahC86 · 07/02/2020 19:27

I agree that Adeline could surge in popularity.... if it was as popular as Alice would you still love them both equally?

Freyanna · 07/02/2020 19:22

Alice

GFJoe · 07/02/2020 19:19

Adeline. I'm biased. It's a family name and my dd's name.

GrumpyMug2 · 07/02/2020 19:17

Adeline.
