We're not finding out the sex of our child but for a girl we're thinking

Georgina Harriet

And a boy

Olivier Thomas

I love the name Joshua but it's very common where we relive (there's three on our street alone!) and I keep joking saying when they're old enough to play out I'll shout Josh and the entire street will come running Halo

Our surname is two syllables and I think the names flow but I'm not sure if it's just because I've said them so much!

What do you think?

@Urkiddingright we've heard this a lot which is the reason for the post really.

A lot of my female friends have said any they've known have been the spoilt brat/bitch and I was seeing if that resonated further than my friendship group.

I hate Georgina but it’s purely because every Georgina I’ve met has been an absolute bitch. Harriet is lovely though.

Astronica · 06/02/2020 23:24

Both Georgina Harriet and Oliver Thomas sound really good, and I love all 4 names individually.

DramaAlpaca · 06/02/2020 23:22

I like both Georgina Harriet and Oliver Thomas. Good choices.

NoSauce · 06/02/2020 22:06

Lovely. I do prefer Harriet as a first name though.

Grufallosfriends · 06/02/2020 21:57

Georgina is beautiful and interesting!

Oliver is dull from overuse. There are billions of Ollies/Olivers and he'll probably have to add his surname as an identifier.

BikeRunSki · 06/02/2020 21:54

If you are concerned about popular names, you might be in for a surprise with Oliver. It is lovely, but very popular.

I am always surprised when I meet a young Georgina, since I have a (slightly scary) 90 year old aunt of that name, although one of DD’s best friends is a Georgina, and ages only 8!

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 06/02/2020 21:11

You have vastly underestimated the popularity of Oliver. It has been #1 since 2009 throughout England and Wales. There are very slight regional differences but it is still the #2 name in the NW, second only (and by a tiny margin) to Mohammad.

It’s a lovely name and it’s popular for a reason, but if you want to avoid very popular names then Oliver is not the one to choose.

Workplaceworries · 06/02/2020 21:03

I grew up in Greater Manchester and I've recently moved to Cheshire and I'm yet to meet an Oliver. I didn't even know it was a "top X" name to be honest! I know a lot of Harry/Max/Elliot/Josh/Matthew so i do think it's regional.

@NameChange30 I'd love to try for another however we've struggled to conceive this baby and had help. We intend to try, but there's no certainty.

"They both sound like names you would use when you’re disappointed your daughter wasn’t a son."

I completely disagree with that.
They are very classic girls' names.
The only name that would make me wonder if the parents wanted a son would be if they used a boy's name or a masculine sounding surname.

CalleighDoodle · 06/02/2020 20:13

Isnt oliver the number one name for boys every year? So there will be so very many

CoffeeRunner · 06/02/2020 20:11

Whether or not Oliver is overly popular depends on your region.

DS1 is Jack. However he went all through school without meeting another Jack. There were lots of Josh, Harry, Tom & Oliver instead. However Jack was the No 1 boys name for his birth year.

Georgina I really don’t like. It just sounds so very harsh. Harriet also. They both sound like names you would use when you’re disappointed your daughter wasn’t a son.

NameChange30 · 06/02/2020 20:04

It's ok you tagged me twice Grin

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 06/02/2020 19:59

I think Georgina Harriet is beautiful, well done OP! Less keen on Oliver - it's a good name but as there are approximately eleventy billion at school I'm afraid I'm biased against it now

Whatsyourflava · 06/02/2020 19:56

@NameChange30 sorry wrong tag

Whatsyourflava · 06/02/2020 19:56

Good idea @namechange30

I love Harriet and Oliver

NameChange30 · 06/02/2020 19:52

Why don't you save Harriet in case you have another girl?

Workplaceworries · 06/02/2020 19:50

@FriedasCarLoad I meant Oliver! Silly autocorrect on my phone!

As for Georgina it's my husbands choice. He's said before we even started to try for children if we have a girl he wants Georgina, I've always wanted Harriet but I think they sound nice together so I'm happy with the compromise.

OP posts:
FriedasCarLoad · 06/02/2020 19:46

Love Georgina.

Do you mean Olivier? Or is it just a typo for Oliver?

Lostintransfixation · 06/02/2020 19:43

I haven't heard someone name their daughter Georgina for years. So that's fab! I don't have anything to say about Oliver as there's a few in every class of our 650 school...so it really wouldn't be one I'd choose. Why not go for something that is less common? It must have been in the top 5 for years. Sorry op.
