Thoughts on Buddy?

Hi everyone! Hubby and I found out a few weeks ago we're having a baby boy. We have always both loved the name Buddy. My only concern is what would other people think? I know I shouldn't but I can't help but ponder what people's perceptions will be of him as it's quite unusual and we've had quite extreme reactions from some family x

@firsttimeivfmum you’d think reading this thread that Buddy is the most obscure name imaginable. There were 140 babies last year named Buddy and the name is on the up. 650 babies named Sonny last year.

I think it’s a nice name and you should do for it. Honestly there’s so many kinds of names around now, there will be far more unusual names in his class at school (for people to raise eyebrows at).

I met a buddy once.

Took me several weeks to figure out it was his actual name and not his mum using an affectionate nickname- “come on buddy, lets go....

You might as well call him friend, mate, darling, love, pet, duck (if you’re going regional) etc.

Buddy is a nickname for Edward (I was told).
I went to school with a 'Buddy' (1970s America).

Not everybody is, unless it's a bear being named. Until recently, I always assumed that anyone called Teddy had Edward on their birth certificate.

It’s fine. It does remind me of Elf though.

Jamie Oliver has a Buddy as does Tom Fletcher.. but he also has a Buzz, so I don’t go much for his taste in names 😂

People always worry about adulthood but c’mon. If your child wants to be a brain surgeon & is clever enough, his name won’t hold him back. Nor will it stop him being a lawyer or a teacher or cleaner etc..! In a previous job, I kid you not, I worked with a Gaynor Dick (maiden name). Everyone called her Gay.. she was head of entire office. 🤷🏼‍♀️
