Sister for Sophia

We have a boys name sorted but we're really struggling with girls names. We don't know what we're having but I don't want to be in a panic if it's a girl or have a little baby no name! DD1 is Sophia Rose. DH loves Charlotte, I'm not entirely convinced. Last time I liked Sadie but know another family with a Sophia and Sadie which is putting me off. Quite like Florence, quite like Olivia but nothing setting my world on fire. Any suggestions welcome

I have a Sophia (aged 14) and a Helena (aged 11). Seems to be a popular suggestion on here, and I always get compliments on the DCs' names, though I sometimes wonder if I was a little too conservative. Olivia is really pretty and Livia is similar sounding but less popular. I've never liked Charlotte, which sounds harsh and frumpy to me, but I'm too old to change it now!

Don't go for Olivia, it is popular to the point of losing its niceness, it's so dull. Olive is better?

Charlotte is really nice because even though it is popular, it is such a strong classic and timeless name.

Everyone else I know with a Sophia has an Isabelle or an Isla so don't choose that, it's also very popular and boring.

I think you need something a little unexpected otherwise the popularity of both names together brings the other one down if you know what I mean. Sophia is a popular name but if she has a sibling with a non-obvious pairing then they both seem nicer and fresher.

I like Sadie but agree it's a bit annoying if someone you know has that exact pair. Florence is ok, a bit overdone I feel.

Phoebe? Penelope? Summer? Orla? Helena?

That's what puts me off gymgirl. It's a lovely name but it's so common. Sierra is nice, not sure if it's a bit too out there for me. I am thinking Sienna could be nice and then nickname could be Cici. I love names like a Coco but in reality I'm not brave enough and DH wouldn't approve!

I personally feel like Charlotte really common and near enough everyone knows one. How about Sierra a less common name than sienna but still equally beautiful plus Sophia and Sierra flow nicely you could also have linking middle names like Sophia Rose and Sierra lily

frillseeking · 04/02/2020 19:45

Yes thank you for all the recs, I got caught up with dinner and bath time! Boys name is Harry as it was my grandfathers name. I also liked Sidney which was other GP'S name but too out there for DH. I just find boys names so much easier whereas I feel very meh towards a lot of girls names, even though they're nice! I still like Olivia from the suggestions, Ruby I also had on my list and someone mentioned Sienna which I liked previously and Isla and Edie but DD1 took a good few years to conceive and these were names I liked back then so I feel like I'm a bit over them now. I know that might sound silly and obviously a name is forever so can't be something you fall out of love with.
